Guest guest
Hello Every-one About 10 years ago I read that food is a medicine, I was living in Canada at the time and came across a book by a Dr. Mirkin. I started a new way of eating for the whole family, no more flour, no pasta, NO SUGAR, no anything out of a package or processed or anything with a shelf life. I ate bread, but the kind that lasted two days after it was baked. My food groups were; Vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans, nuts and seeds, sprouts etc..fish and shelfish, and organic grass fed beef, or buffalo, turkey and chicken breast or some game about once every two weeks. We still eat this way, it just became a habit and we got hooked on the extra amount of energy we have from our good eating habits. You can just imagine how conditioned my family look, we get compliments all the time about our good weight and youthful looks. Junk and processed foods made me look about 10 years older and my skin was not so nice either. I just wanted to say -- It works and it feels GREAT. Try it. Oh, and the other benefit is the lack of any illness in our family. We used to have constant cough, cold, runny noses, allergies etc...no more! Marica. Guest guest
I think she means fresh breads without preservatives, high fructose corn syrup, and soy oil (which is impossible to find in a regular supermarket.) Plus, you can use other flours like spelt and kamut and whole wheat. My mom bakes bread once every couple weeks with semolina and whole wheat flour and it is delicios. > > I'm curious how you make bread without flour? > > Also, what do you do for pasta? Guest guest
Did you purchase a book(s) that gave you meal ideas? also where do you do most of your shopping? I'm asking because I have been trying to find healthier foods for my family, however I don't have many options as to where to purchase good quality whole foods. Do you find it more expensive eating healthy foods then it was eating foods from standard grocer stores? I did find a goat farm just minutes from me that sells raw milk. Thanks Keisha > > Hello Every-one > About 10 years ago I read that food is a medicine, I was living in Canada at the time and came across a book by a Dr. Mirkin. Guest guest
I saw the Ezekial bread and wraps at Whole Foods, but they have soy flour I think so I never got it. There is also kamut and spelt pasta which is great, tastes just like whole wheat. Of course, if someone can't have gluten there are rice noodles and corn pastas. Luckily, some regular grocery stores are starting to have an organic section with a lot of things you find at health food stores. Sometimes the things are even cheaper, but sometimes not. > I'm curious how you make bread without flour? > > Also, what do you do for pasta? Guest guest
Good point.....when I cook out of a cookbook I just replace the bad with the good. Instead of using vegetable oil lets say, I use coconut or butter, then try to use the natural organic meats and dairy products. It's not hard at all. - In Vaccinations , Clemons <clemonsmary@...> wrote: > > Personally, I just use my regular cookbooks and add in ingredients that I know are better, like King Arthur flour, organic raisins, etc. Sugar is sugar and I can't get away from it altogther, we've tried, but I can't hardly make banana bread without it either! > > I am not a vegetarian, but they have some great cookbooks out there with great recipes in them. Guest guest
I substitute good with bad all the time also. Most of the sellers at the farmers markets around here go to a huge market up north a ways, then bring it down here to sell. So really it is like buying from the store. I did my own garden this year to, it was doing great until this drought came along:( My city water killed the rest of it. But I did get a lot of beans and tomatoes. Guest guest
It can't be Certified Organic if it is GMO so that is one way to avoid GMO's GMO = Genetically Modified. Hope this helps. > I'm curious how you make bread without flour? > > Also, what do you do for pasta? Guest guest
For those of you wanting a cooking book I strongly reccommend Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon. I also just take any cook book I like and convert the recipes with butter coconut oil ect. Hope this helps.
