Guest guest
Shambo is a sacred bull kept by Hindu monks in Wales. He was tested for TB and was found to be a reactor. Despite protests, one of which were fought in courts, the bull was finally lead away to slaughter last night. Not always happy with media reporting and curious to see what was actually happening, I slipped up to the Hindu temple yesterday to witness it myself. Three things I would like to comment on. The DEFRA employees had no protective clothing on despite the apparent risk of transfer of TB droplets from bull to the employees. In fact Shambo was seen to lick them. Although, there have been cases where M.Bovis has been tranferred from animal to man, evidently they were not worried about any risk of infection. Two further employees down the road were obviously worried about infection as they stood there ready to spray with disinfectant. Secondly, DEFRA turned off the webcam while dealing with the bull in the temple. Why was that? Thirdly, most of the media I spoke to were aware and acknowledged that the bull could have been treated with antibiotics. They did not however reflect this in their reporting.
