Guest guest
Tacy- I've had wonderful results with chiropractic and I, like your dh, started out as a major skeptic. My dh's good friend and old roomie is a chiro. and when we got married I had just a terrible right hip problem and I couldn't walk anywhere for more than 15 min. without extreme pain. Dh said to go see 'Doc ' as we call him. I did NOT want to--thought it was quackery. He helped where MD's NEVER could. Also, my ds was a child who occasionally popped up with an ear infection (yes, he was breastfed until he weened himself at 17 mos.) and I took him to the chiro after listening to him scream 3 nights in a row from pain. It took one adjustment and he NEVER had another ear infection again. I also had all of newborns adjusted and never had a problem or issue with it being too rough on them. Chiro care in my experience has always been extremely gentle. Take some info on chiro care from your Dr.'s office and bring it home for your dh. He's just trying to be responsible which is great. And maybe when he gets the info he needs then he'll be satisfied. As far as techniques go, there are a lot of them. I didn't realize this until we moved to Iowa. In Davenport is the very first chiropractic college ever so I really got an education about it all when we moved here. We had our guy from home and another guy I went to when I couldn't get it to see my regular one and they were pretty similar. When we moved down here most of the chiros down here use a different technique called Gonstead which is very popular at Palmer-- the college in Davenport. When my dd showed up with her vax injury we also starting see a Chriopractic Neurologist (even chiros can have sub-specialties) and he does something even different from Gonstead and our guys from home. So yes, shop around if you can and ask questions about how and why they do their adjusting. I haven't met a chiro yet who won't tell you all about it. Hope that helps... Guest guest
Hi, Tacy, Chiropractic is safe for babies. My son saw my chiro off and on his first year (she didn't charge anything for his 1st year, since I was already a patient!); nothing major, though. The reason chiros have you come in often (at first, and then it should taper off) is because most of us have had our maladjustments (subluxations) for awhile and our muscles, tendons, etc. have become accustomed to it being that way. When the chiro moves the bones to where they are supposed to be, the muscles, etc. tend to pull them back. That's why they usually see you 3x/week for the first week or two, then 2x/week, 1x/week, etc. With a baby, I don't know. I can't see why a baby would be as stuck as an adult. If the chiro is pushing for the usual routine, it could be several reasons: (a) he/she doesn't know of any other way to do it, knows that routine works and so is reluctant to switch from it ( some babies may need more (again, I would be somewhat skeptical of that, or © the chiro is lazy and/or wants the extra $$. One last thing: when chiros " pop " your back, all they are doing is releasing areas where the bones have gotten jammed. The natural state of the joints is to move freely. When you've got a jam, the joint doesn't move freely. All the chiro is doing is releasing it to move freely again. So they aren't putting anything where it shouldn't go or damaging anything. As for getting info about chiro safety... I would do an internet search for " safety " and " chiropractic " or something like that. Will probably find lots of stuff from chiros and chiro association talking about its safety. Good luck! -Angie On Apr 14, 2007, at 2:25 AM, Tacy wrote: > VERY helpful about the state laws on vax! I only wish I had done that with my autistic son Henry. He had the most violent birth via c-section. He never dropped and when they re-opened my bikini cut, he was still way out of reach. They then did a " classic " cut that was vertical and pulled and wiggled him out. I can remember my body thrashing from side to side on that table; it was SO frightening. We had a lot of challenges after his birth; I didn't get him chiro care until months afterwards. As he became more autistic, it became more and more difficult to get him adjusted and we finally gave up. I do regret it terribly....Anita --------------------------------- Ahhh...imagining that irresistible " new car " smell? Check outnew cars at Autos. Guest guest
do you guys see chiro's for your well baby checks of sort? do you skip regular dr's ? can a chiro write a medical exemption for vaccines? i'm guessing not my PA gave me a video to watch on why i should vaccinate my 2 month old...i watched it this weekend and i must say, it really wasn't convicing...the best they had was a woman who didn't vax her child and got menengitis......but that wasn't even very convincing the way they did it _________________________________________________________________ MSN is giving away a trip to Vegas to see Elton . Guest guest
New here and jumped in in the middle, so tell me why should children see chiros? I think may be if I take my 2 year old may be it will help with her functional/cronic constipation. What do you think? I have just made the decision to not vaccinate because of the problems my ids have experienced. Lets see next week how my ped takes it. I an taking my 3 1/2 month old for her 4 month check up! Guest guest
My grandson, now 8 months old was taken early on to a chrio and he helped his constipation after they told my daughter at the hospital that it was normal for them not to go every day, should be after every meal especially being breastfed. But, in his case after going to a homeopathic physician, that he actually had an allergy to milk and she put him on a remedy for him and that solved his problem. So if she is constipated, them there is a reason for it. The guy had three kids of his own, who were not vaccinated and he told my daughter that he treated his last son who was a month old at the time, that he had treated him before they even cut the cord because he would not stop crying after he was born. I know that 25 years ago, I had my son there when he was just three days old and my middle daughter at about a week because she cried allot. They can treat an earache, cold or just about anything. Guest guest
I don't know if chiro's do well baby checks, but... if they're not being vaxed, and your chiro doesn't vax, (mine didn't) they're a GREAT reference of WHERE to find a dr. that doesn't push vaccinations!! My chiro told me of when when my daughter was young, and he just asked each visit if I still didn't want them. I confirmed, and he moved on. No hassle, no harassment, etc. How NICE!!! So... you might want to try that route. Or... I'm sure you could call any chiro out of the phone book and just ask them if they have any references to give you on a dr. that doesn't push vaccinations. I'm thinking most chiros don't vaccinate, so.... After a while, my daughter's ped. actually told me that if she's not getting vaccinations, there's really no reason to keep coming in unless I'm concerned about something, or she's having problems with something. She was gaining weight just fine, etc. So.... After hearing that from him, my boys have had well baby checks til like... 2 months old- just to check weights, and that was it! lol They are 3 1/2 years, and twins that are 18 months. They've only been to the dr. for issues we've had. Tara > <<With a baby, I don't know. I can't see why a baby would be as stuck as > an adult. Guest guest
Tabitha- Here in IA you cannot use a chiro for a medical exemption. I have tried. I do see the chiro for almost all of our medical needs. My kids have not been back to the family MD since my dd's vax injury although she has been seen over in Iowa City several times. Your best bet is the religious exemption. Guest guest
My children both go to a chiro, not so much anymore. My son was " adjusted " regularly for a while, from around 3 weeks old, he was footling breech and had issues wiht his hips. My daughter was seen from around 5 weeks old or so... and we learned REAL quick to take a diaper AND change of clothing, she'd POOP big time RIGHT after - so I'm sure it did some great things right there. My daughter also had colic, cried and cried all night, our first quiet night was after her first adjustment.... but then it started again and we took her back for another adjustment and there was NO more crying! Niether child has had ear infections, no shots, no antibiotics. My son B/F till 6mnths (he is 7yrs old now), my daughter till she was 3 years old.
