I am RH-. I had a miscarriage in 1995 (pre-health awareness). I was about

10-12 weeks. I needed a D & C, and I was given the shot (not asked, just

given). I had another miscarriage in 2006. I was only like 5 weeks along. No

shot then, and no offer of shot. I have a 12 month old little girl now. I

refused the RhoGam shot during pregnancy. This got me kicked out of my ObGyn.

After was born I did not need the shot b/c she was RH- also. If she

had been RH+, I probably would have taken the shot. But that is only after she

was born. There is no way I would take the shot while pregnant. The first

step is to see if your hubby is RH+ or -. If he is - then there would never

be a need to take the shot. Hope that helps.

Thanks for sharing that Holly

Exactly but doctor's don't want to believe that the mom knows who the

father is or will be honest about it, so they take over.

,

I am sorry to hear of your loss. Firstly, I lost a baby at 16 weeks, 4

years ago. The experience ranks as probably the saddest time of my life so

far.

So, I feel for you. And, I am Rh-, and my husband is positive. I had been

given Rhogam after previous babies were born, but I had heard about the

mercury in it, and I was hoping not to have it after my miscarriage.

Amazingly,

my doctor never even brought it up! My next son was born 2 years later,

without any problem.

So, my personal (non-medically trained) opinion is: don't put junk into

your body if you don't have to! Also, the other day I met a woman who was told

she could not have any more children after her first because she was Rh- (I

guess before Rhogam), and she went on to have six more healthy babies! Go

figure!

Hi ,

I'm sorry for your loss... truly.

Before knowing more... I allowed pre-natal rhogam for my first 2 babies. Got

another shot after my first was born because she's positive. My 2nd baby is

negative. I practice extended breastfeeding (which is when you breastfeed past

the first year) and right before my 2nd baby was one year old, I had a

miscarriage. I didn't know I was even pregnant because I never had gotten my

period back (one of the benefits of breastfeeding, delays your period). I never

went to the doctor afterwards because I felt the sac/tissue/'clot' passing

through me. I had never had a miscarriage before but looked up stuff about it

afterwards and I know that's what happened... from all the bleeding, cramping,

and physical stuff to the emotional aspect of it. Plus, my real period didn't

start for another five months. Anyways, I didn't get the shot. I did have

concerns about the blood mixing and all but figured that if it was meant for me

to have another baby, I would.

I conceived my next baby without any problems... in fact, after just one 'try',

we got pregnant. I knew my 'due' date but had a feeling I'd give birth at 39

weeks and I did... at home, without anyone around but me and my 2 daughters. It

was awesome. And he's perfect :)

I have no idea of my baby's bloodtype. I didn't get the shot. I won't get one

again. He hasn't been to a doctor yet (or to anyone) and he's 15 mths old.

My sister in GA has 5 kids, all born at home... she got one post-pardum rhogam

shot after her first baby was born. There's nothing wrong with any of her 5

kids.

This same sister told me that she was talking to some lady who happened to be a

nurse and that lady told her that you only need rhogam once in your life... once

you have it, there's no need for another... which is in total contrast with most

in the medical field.

I gave into having the shot prenatally for baby #2 because I was gonna get

kicked out of my midwife's practice if I didn't... and there's no other CNMs in

my area... so, I conceded but made sure it was mercury-free.

That's my story...

Best wishes,

Re: RH- and miscarriage

Thank you Holly for your reply.

I looked up info to back up what you are say and I found one article

that says that there are minimal risks if you dont get the Rhogam

shot during a threatened miscarriage or miscarriage. But then

everywhere else I read it said to get the shot. I also looked up the

Rhogam insert and it did say to get the shot in a threatened

miscarriage or miscarriage even in the early weeks. So I really

don't know what to do. I know that there are risks too with the shot.

Are there any momma's here who are RH- and could share with me their

experience whether or not they got the Rhogam Shot. Thank you.

I asked my doctor bout ABO incompatibility before they kicked me out for not

I am Rh- with a DU factor. I have four children at

home and never received the rhogam shot. The rhogam

shot is made from human blood product. There are no

cases recorded that links rhogam with HIV or

hepititis. Also I am more concerned that the RH and

ABO incompatibility problems come from early cord

clamping and other interventions done by doctors.

ABO incompatibility is rare, but when it does happen,

it is a real problem.

Try looking this up. It will answer the question

your doctor would or could not answer for you.
