Guest guest
If that's what I will be watching this afternoon, then, I welcome it. I say, " Way to go Oprah, for stepping up to the plate & bringing up the possibility that vaccines could be the cause of Autism " . My little girl definitely was damaged significantly by them. Her reaction definitely shows she knows what's going on. Maybe she waited to do the show because she was trying to get that point across without damaging her reputation with other influential enterprises here in the US. Of course, this is just my opinion about what you have said about the show. If I feel diferently after I watch it, I'll post again. Jenn L Autism on Oprah today I just watched Oprah's show on Autism today. The show airs again in the evening in most areas. I was hoping there would at least be a mention of vaccines, but didn't expect it. At the part where Oprah asked the pediatrician that specializes in autism about the *causes* of autism, the dr. ran off a list of possible causes. Oprah interrupted and said " vaccines " and the doctor fumbled and looked very uncomfortable. The dr. said " well, there is a lot of controversy about that right now " and Oprah said " I know there's controversy, I just wanted to say it. " I am glad she did, because that doctor wasn't even going to mention it, of course. Then, after they got back from a commercial break later in the show, Oprah says that she wanted to point out that the 1st mom there VEHEMENTLY believes that vaccines are the cause of her son's autism. She wanted to point out that there are different opinions, and she wanted to have that mom's opinion known, and also that the doctor there does not agree with that at all. The way it was said, though, came across well, I hope... Of course I wish they would have let that mom speak more about the vaccin it's in the documentary. I got the feeling that maybe if Oprah talked to that one mom for a bit (even off camera, etc), it might at least inform her more about the possiblity of vaccines being the cause, because you could see Oprah not being able to understand how the child could go from developing completely normal to changing so drastic. Like there HAD to be some major cause. Guest guest
Oprah said the " V " word? Wow! She's SO brave <obviously annoyed>. She can do MUCH better than that; after all, she holds all the gold. We'll see if she drops it like a hot potato or rises up to some really good tv journalism that will be supported by many, many thousands(excluding BIGpHARMa, of course).......Anita Precourt <jsprecourt@...> wrote: I just watched Oprah's show on Autism today. The show airs again in the evening in most areas. Guest guest
I hope it at least plants some seeds. Many woman worship Oprah and the way it came across, the doctor didn't look like she knew everything she was talking about and the mom on there DID. I hope it at leasts gets more parents to THINK. Better than nothing at all. Of course, there was a Gardasil commercial during a commercial break. Steph Anita Durney <mydurney@...> wrote: Oprah said the " V " word? Wow! She's SO brave . Guest guest
Of course there was, . And the sponsors for THAT commercial will continue to have the final word on how much depth any talk of vaccine caused autism will receive...Anita Precourt <jsprecourt@...> wrote: I hope it at least plants some seeds. Guest guest
I guess I saw it differently. I saw that she let both sides have a say, but she didn't let it get into a big mess. Today's story was not just about that, but to call attention to all aspects. Yeah, I caught the Gardasil commercial, too, but Oprah could buy the network, for Pete's sake, so her hands are much less tied - in my opinion. Sheri B. Guest guest
After watching the show, I was much more pleased Oprah than I thought I would be. She gave her guest a chance to say it and say it more than once, something that has been denied so many others who have come forth. She also put the Dr. sort of on the spot more than once; I rather liked that. ;~)..Anita " Sheri B. " <tallchick1966@...> wrote: I guess I saw it differently. Guest guest
I highly recommend that if we'd like to see her do this that we all send her emails sighting research ,etc... that show that kind of info. I don't know that she's a huge fan of anecdotal evidence but she does respond to studies, etc... If we clog the inbox over there with scientific findings we'd have a better chance of her lidtening to this side of the debate and airing something on it. Guest guest
Good recommendation. I hate to be such a skeptic, but do you think perhaps Oprah gave the blond woman sitting beside her an opportunity to talk about a vaccine/autism link because she happens to be the daughter of Bob who's wife founded Autism Speaks that recognizes these claims. It's hard to believe NBC did such a poor job with that week long series of autism awareness segments that conveniently left this possibility out. I don't know........Anita clinstrom5 <clinstrom5@...> wrote: I highly recommend that if we'd like to see her do this that we all send her emails sighting research ,etc... that show that kind of info. Guest guest
The weirdest thing happened. I was going to be gone when this aired, so I taped it. When I watched it this morning, as soon as they started talking about the vaccine issue, the sound went out. I waited, but it didn't come back on until words came on the screen, switching the subject, so I didn't get to hear what all was said on vaccines. I couldn't believe it, I wondered if it was done somehow on purpose? It just is a bit suspicious that this would happen only at that time. I mainly watched to see what would be said, but I didn't even get to hear it. Tara
