Guest guest
Completely lost my mind yesterday, and ate nearly an entire bag of Bugles chips over the the duration of the workday - finished them off this morning. I almost never buy them; now, I remember why. I did try to go healthy with lunch yesterday and had a spinach salad with mushrooms, HB egg and a bit of bacon (or bacon bits, not much). And a little bit of pasta salad w/broccoli. DH said there was an article in last Sunday's Parade Magazine (Sunday supplement) that you should eat your salad first, to fill you up a bit before you eat the " main " parts of your meal. Well, duh, that's just common sense. But, I often don't do it. I make salads and reluctantly nibble at it, til the " good stuff " - the meat and starches, are gone. One thing that I can't get enough of lately is those little grape tomatoes. They are expensive, but I can eat a whole little clamshell of those over the course of a day. That would be a better choice, financially and nutritionally, than a bag of d**n Bugles (smile). I noticed while I was chew-chew-chewing all that spinach, a guy next to me had a bag of MickeyD's. He ate everything and was gone while I was still only 1/2way through the salad. Makes you think. How many times have I simply scarfed down 500-600 calories in 5-10 minutes without even thinking about it? Yesterday, I started clearing out cupboards in prep for the kitchen remodel which will probably start in about 6 weeks. There must have been 70 items, mostly spice jars, packed into this one shelf of the inside corner cabinet, most of them having not seen the light of day in months or years. I have 3 jars of whole cloves, 2 jars of dried dill and a full jar of curry powder. We don't even LIKE curry. I have 2 jars of cumin, which I kind of like, but my first and only experience with it was when I had an Afghani boyfriend, so I haven't used that for years, either. It IS amazing on chicken, though. He used to make this lemon-cumin chicken thing that was to die for. I think of the interesting and colorful foods we could have if I was using all the spices in here instead of the 6 or 7 at the front (steak seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, italian seasoning, fines herbes, etc.) I will get rid of the obviously old and duplicated items, and then take whatever will fit on a cookie sheet to slide in and out of that shelf, til we get the new cabinets in. Now, off to find another healthy lunch... Eileen in OR
