Guest guest
Hi, I'm sure that this was a set-up joke. If this really happened the government would have been all over them, they would have stopped production of them, etc. Plus Letterman continued laughing rather than try to put the steamer out and he had a tray underneath the steamer, probably rigged to start the fire. I think this product is neat, although I don't have it myself, I like the idea. I have the Oster steamer which runs for $30 or so and I love it. See it here: http://www.amazon.com/5712-Electronic-2-Tier-6-1-Quart-Steamer/dp/B00019G8IS/ref\ =pd_bbs_sr_1/103-0635627-6215045?ie=UTF8 & s=home-garden & qid=1179161992 & sr=8-1 What I like about it is it has delayed cooking, so you can set the timer, put your food in and have it start cooking up to 12 hours later. You can set it before you go to bed so you wake up and have steamed veggies to pack for your lunch. Or set in the morning and come home to fresh steamed veggies for dinner. You can also steam hard boiled eggs, shrimp, meats, reheat leftovers, etc. I use it to reheat stuff all the time, as it gives it a moister flavor. I highly recommend a good steamer with features like this. It's something that gets used at least once a day in our house. I've used this product 1-2 times a day for 2 years with no problems what so ever. Great deal for 30 bucks! It doesn't have a flavor scenter like the RS one does, but that's not something I would use anyway. It does have more than one tier which does make it possible to steam food seperately although not at different times. I would just put the food tier I wanted for less time on later in the process. I don't watch Letterman and assumed this was a real explosion, because it would be really stupid and dangerous to cause an explosion on a small set like that. Does anyone know for sure? Did Letterman *say* after it happened that it was a joke? If this really > happened the government would have been all over them, Not necessarily. A lot of companies knowingly sell defective products because it's cheaper to pay off on any lawsuits than correct the problems on items already made. About half the price of 's steamer, too. > What I like about it is it has delayed cooking, so you > can set the timer, put your food in and have it start > cooking up to 12 hours later. Cool! I can't do that with my pots of water. Sue in NJ

Never heard this.. usually lawsuits are astoundingly expensive, expecially when a product starts fires! Plus if Letterman was surprised by the fire he would probably not have been laughing. > Crew members would do this, anyway, not the host of > the show. Yeah, but he was laughing, not shocked, not worried about the fire, just laughing. > I use a pot of water with a steamer attachment pan - > looks like a double > boiler but the top pot is full of holes. I use the steamer so much it stays out on the counter, and all my other appliances (except my blender) are put away in cabinets as I dont' use them regularly. > > which runs for $30 or so and I love it. > > About half the price of 's steamer, too. Yes, it doesn't have some of the features 's does like the flavoring ability and different compartments, which actually is kind of neat, but not something I'd probably use regularly. I do love my steamer! Luv, Debby San , CA ------------- Most people won't change until the pain of where they are exceeds the pain of change. You guys might want to try watching the whole segment instead of the short one taken out of context: http://www.devilducky.com/media/54517/ Once you see the earlier part and the part that came after you can more tell that it was a set-up. [4] On November 22, 2000, they had a falling out after an incident that occurred on that night's show. (while dressed as a turkey) was sprayed in the face by Letterman with a fire extinguisher after grabbed Letterman as if to hug or kiss him, causing to have a severe asthma attack.[5] did not appear on the Letterman show for six years, finally returning on November 29, 2006. During that appearance, Letterman once again set up for a prank. While was demonstrating a steamer branded with his name, Letterman insisted on placing a tray under the steamer which did not believe belonged there. When turned the steamer on, something in the tray under it exploded and started burning. Though initially scared, took the incident in fairly good nature, even joking that he " felt like " (referring to a mishap where 's hair was set on fire by a malfunctioning light.)[6] ------------- Most people won't change until the pain of where they are exceeds the pain of change. Even that short segment took about a half hour to download before I could play it. Sue in NJ

But I guess when you're hawking a new product you swallow your pride and go where you can. > took the incident in fairly > good nature, even joking that he " felt like > " That part was shown in the clip - he didn't seem that " good natured " to me. You mention in another post that some other web site has a longer clip. I guess it showed there that he laughed it off. Sue in NJ
