Guest guest
Well Being / Inspiration Binge Recovery Daily Inspiration By Dr. H. Sklare Monday, April 2, 2007 Are you a binge eater? If you’re not sure, please think about the following questions: Do you eat extremely large amounts of food within a 2-hour period at least two times a week? During those two hours, do you feel unable to control the amount of food you eat? And finally, do you get down on yourself or feel depressed and disgusted after you finish? Well, if you answered yes to these questions, you are most likely a binge eater. Binge eating is probably the most common type of eating disorder, but it should not to be confused with bulimia, a more serious disorder involving purging after eating. Even though binge eating disorder is more prevalent in women, it is also not uncommon in men. The jury is still out regarding what causes bingeing but there is one thing we know for sure: depression definitely plays a role in this disorder. If this sounds like you, please speak with your doctor about this immediately. In the meantime, here are five tips on how to recover from a binge eating episode: 1. Drink plenty of water to help hydrate your body and flush out some of those binge-induced toxins. 2. Do some kind of easy, low-energy exercise. Although you feel bloated and don’t want to move, even a little walk can help release endorphins, which will make you feel better. 3. Don’t go near the scale! Since you just binged, the scale will show a gain and will only increase your depression, making you feel worse. 4. Have a healthy eating plan in place ahead of time that lays out your next three meals. 5. Use this incident as motivation to do better and recommit to healthy living. Wishing You Great Health, Dr. H.
