I hope you ended up at Bubba Gumps on Pier 39...................... =)

Between my two sons, we end up there for at least one of their birthdays every year.

(We live up in Rohnert Park, about 45 minutes north of SF, but, I grew up in Marin.)

Welcome Back ! No need for me to ask if you enjoyed yourself. LOL I'm pretty sure you did:) But it's nice to have our cheerleader back with us:)

Hi everyone!

Got back from San Fran yesterday - we had a great time (other than the fiasco of the actual travel time. The big hoop-d-oooooh in SF was the QA2 arriving in the bay area Sun afternoon. We got to see that up close and (not so) personal. Also on Monday - the Crown Princess (a Princess cruise ship) was docked loading for their next round, so there were tons of people around for that.

Went to China town, Marine museums, etc... (eh, don't forget Ghiradelli Square for the good stuff) a lot of places were closed for repairs and renovations (maybe due to being "off season"??) - who knows.

Anyway - I think I have had a year's worth of seafood in one weekend LOL - but it was cool. For almost all of our dinners, we went in and ordered a couple of appetizers to share and then one "meal" to split - it was more than enough and that way we could taste more. :-)

OK, I am being optimistic that I can keep up with everything and am back on receiving mail status. I have pretty much read everything for the past two weeks, but if it isn't in my inbox now to respond to, it is probably in the mass read/delete wake I left recently.

Apologies to anyone that is missing individual responses.

Welcome to the newer members, I will get to know you as we move forward. Happy birthday and anniversary to anyone I have missed in there. And keep up the good work to all of us.

Hugs,

LOL - nope. We did that one other time though, so not missing out on anything this time. It was so funny though, I have to tell you. I never go to IHOP unless I am with sweetie and he didn't think there would be one "close" to where we were staying... HA! That'll show him... there was an IHOP within like 4 blocks of our hotel... bet you can guess where we went for breakfast every day. ;-)

We had one of those big ones in port last summer, was it the QE2? Anyway,

only registered passengers and the people who were with them could get

anywhere near it. None of us mere mortals were even allowed near the ports.

It as easy enough to keep people away, with the cruise port being on former

army base property and they lines had their own security people in the

still-standing guard house. We could get a glimpse at all the ships across

the lagoon fromt he base, in the parking lot of the Stop n Shop supermarket.

No... I messed up though, at that. It was QM2 - Queen 2 - on her way around the world cruise. Left SF for Hawaii. Same thing though, no one could get near it... just seeing it through the gates at the dock.

That must be nice being able to see the ships. I bet it's beautiful and relaxing watching them. Lynn

Well, they look a bit better in the distance than the oil tankers and

freighters we get all day long around here, with their splashier paint jobs.

:)

Usually we only know one of the ships is in dock when the shopping avenue is

over run with the crew. Toiletries, clothing, and even food is cheaper in

our local stores than on the boats so whenever they're in port they load up.

The cruise lines rents a bus to take them from the " dock to downtown " every

half hour or so on those days. When we see their pick-up spots jammed with

Filipinos loaded down with bags from CVS and Shop Rite we know the boat is

in.
