's Daily Message WednesdayFebruary 07, 2007HATEFUL SITUATION

When I was struggling with my weight, I used to always put myself down. And the more I put myself down, the better I got at it. Until, finally, the put-downs took over my life. I would look at my reflection in the mirror and, immediately, the self-inflicted insults would start:

"Just look at you! You`re disgusting, you`re so fat and you look horrible, no matter what you wear. And when you walk down the street, everyone looks at you and laughs. You`re never gonna change. This is the way you will always be."

As time went on, I began to hate myself. I became angry and very depressed. And through those dark times, I continued to overeat, be miserable and gain even more weight.

Until one day, I questioned my self-hate. Why did I hate myself? Because I was fat? Was that a reason to hate myself? And what was the hate doing to me or for me, other than making a bad situation worse?

Everyday, I receive a lot of E-mails from people who tell me they hate themselves. And what they tell me that they tell themselves is often pretty brutal. Here`s what I tell everyone about this hateful situation.

Stop hating yourself because you`re carrying extra weight. Think about it...nothing comes from hate but hate. The first thing you must do is stop saying these things about yourself to yourself. Instead of tearing yourself down, build yourself up. Instead of looking in the mirror and reading yourself the riot act, give yourself compliments and positive affirmations.

Hey, it`s a brand new day and today, you're gonna feel better about and take better care of yourself. Today, you`re gonna focus on eating smaller portions and you will make time to exercise.

Every time you give yourself one of these pick-me-up chats, you will begin to appreciate and love yourself more each day. And when that happens, you`ll begin to find peace with your weight and with the other issues that may haunt you. Remember, nothing comes from love...but love.

Love,
