Guest guest
Well Being / InspirationToo Thin or NOT Too Thin? Daily Inspiration By Dr. H. Sklare Monday, December 18, 2006 A few months ago I read a story in the newspaper that did my heart good! I’m sure that most of you are familiar with this story by now and were equally elated upon hearing it. It appears that after decades of seeing emaciated models walking down the runway, the organizers of this year’s Madrid Fashion Week put on the proverbial healthy brakes. They injected a new rule for their fashion show that banned overly thin models from setting foot on the catwalk. They defined an unacceptable model as one with a body mass index of less than 18! I nearly fell out of my chair but I couldn’t help but smile. Organizing official Concha Buerra said, “Fashion is a mirror and many teenagers imitate what they see on the catwalk.” This is so true and it’s about time someone took a stand on this and came to their senses. And the good news is that other fashion show organizers were considering following in Madrid’s footsteps. The truth is that these underweight models are not a good example for young women. Their skinny bodies are undernourished, unhealthy and in some cases, dangerous. Young women need realistic role models and healthy weight goals. Maybe the time has come where reality and common sense have finally made their way into the fashion world. So if you’re one of those women with unrealistic weight loss goals who aspire to have one of these undernourished looking bodies, why not make today the day you get real! Too thin or not too thin? That is the question!
