's Daily Message SaturdayDecember 02, 2006MEALS, PART I

I was raised on 3 meals a day. How about you? Yeah, I thought so! Every meal in my house was a celebration. The smell of breakfast food woke me up in the morning. There was bacon and eggs frying in the skillet and toast getting toasty in the toaster! Sometimes my father would go to this donut shop a few blocks away and bring back home a box of warm, glazed donuts. And on Sunday, my dad fixed a brunch fit for the royal family! There was always a huge glass of orange juice and milk waiting to be gulped down. Oh, those were the days of high fat and high calorie breakfasts!

Well, we know now that eating this way is not very healthy for our bodies. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and you should eat the most nutritious foods you can prepare for yourselves! For over 30 years, I have been creating meals that satisfy me, and I pass them on to you. And yes, you know I pay very close attention to portions, as should you!

Okay, so what should we have? 3/4 cup of unsweetened cereal, 1/2 cup of fat free milk, and a half a banana? That`s one starch, one dairy, and one fruit. Or 8 ounces of fat free yogurt with vanilla extract and 3/4 cup of fresh blueberries? That`s one dairy and one fruit. Or 1/4 cup of Egg Beaters or a 3 egg white omelet with mushroom and spinach and a piece of whole wheat toast with "I Can`t Believe it`s Not Butter"? That`s 1 protein and 1 starch. Or 1/2 cup of oatmeal with 1 cup of warm, fat free milk and 2 tablespoons of raisins? That`s 1 starch, 1 dairy, and 1 fruit.

What I suggest for you to do is go through the food exchanges and meal plans that are all included in the Clubhouse. Are you a member yet? It`s so easy to join, and I know being a member will help you get through this month filled with so many holidays!

Oh, and one more thing to think about before you go out and have a stupendous day. DON`T SKIP BREAKFAST! People who skip breakfast are usually grumpy and irritable. Why? Because they starved their bodies, and that`s not a very nice thing to do! So start your day in a healthy way, and make sure you don`t leave your house without breakfast in your tummy.

Love,
