1988

Eighteen years ago, I received a letter from a lady who was desperately

trying to help her friend named lie Bradford. lie was morbidly obese

and had just tried to take her own life. After reading the letter, I

immediately went to the phone and called lie. She told me she couldn`t

understand why I would take the time to call her, because she wasn`t really

worth it. I quickly changed her mind and told her she could have a wonderful

life if she wanted it, and that I would help her.

In 1988, lie made the " Guinness Book of World Records " as being the

heaviest woman in the world, weighing in between 1100-1200 pounds. I sent

lie a Deal-a-Meal, and we spent time working on meal plans for her to

follow. I also sent her a " Sweatin` to the Oldies " tape and told lie to

do a few minutes of upper body work a day, and lie stuck to her program!

She prayed to God each day for strength.

lie began losing weight! 100 pounds, 200, 300, 400… and within 5 years,

lie lost 700 pounds and was again entered in the " Guinness Book of World

Records " as who lost the most amount of weight! I brought lie on several

TV shows so she could tell her story, and I must tell you, everyone who met

her was inspired by what she had to say. lie started her own ministry to

help people who are morbidly obese! She would often call me and ask me to

call someone who really needed a " Fix. "

Over the last 18 years, I have cherished my time and friendship with

lie. I talked with her about 3 weeks ago. When I heard her voice, I

could picture her just smiling that big smile of hers. lie told me she

didn`t feel very good. She had had some surgery and was in a lot of pain. We

chatted a while, and she was asking me how certain people were doing who she

knew from way back when. I sang lie a little song and said my goodbye.

Little did I know that was the last time I would speak to lie, for she

passed away last week. I will miss this extraordinary woman who helped so

many, but lie, your story will be told over and over again! You will

live on in the hearts of many, including mine.

Love,
