Guest guest
Wow! You have already lost 70 pounds and you exercise 5 days a week! Do you ever get cravings or do you feel like skipping exercise? How is your energy level? What about clothes? How many sizes have you dropped and is it getting spendy? What about the holidays? How are you planning to deal with that? Kim F
Guest guest
Hi Kim I always get cravings!!! believe me!!! and until a month ago I was trying my hardest to ignore them until my Weight Watcher leaders had a huge talk to me as I was plateauing for 3 months. I was being too strict on myself and not having any treats and I was planning for a fortnight of food and never ever straying from it. But my body wasn't liking it so finally I woke up and listened to my WW leaders and gave myself a treat once a week like going out for butter chicken or having a small bar of chocolate but pointing it and I have lost every week in the last 6 weeks. My energy levels are better doing the exercise... this is my routine: Monday: Program at the gym with my friend Debbie Tuesday: Rest day Wednesday: Kick boxing class at the gym Thursday: Personal Training with my trainer and my friend Debbie Friday: Personal Training with trainer Saturday: Rest day Sunday: Program at the gym with my friend Debbie I am not too sure about your sizes over there but I went from a size 28 (New Zealand size) and now I am a size 22 and soon to be a 20 as my clothes are getting too loose and the belt I just brought needs to have another hole in it. I am getting angry about having to buy clothes as I can't afford to keep doing it! It is sort of the same as when I was gaining weight that nothing was fitting and it was all tight but now it is too loose and it is frustrating me but my friends keep saying but that is great and sometimes it is but is expensive. Last year I lost 400grams over the Xmas week but I still tried everything but all in moderation and I went for walks and bike rides.... I suppose I am finally realising that what do I want more? The food or being skinny. My WW leaders saying is "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels" and they are sooo right! I am addicted to exercise now and that is scary because I NEVER wanted to do exercise and would never think about walking to the letterbox let alone doing the things I have done this year. I have done the following things since January of 2006 Relay for life (24 hour walk for Cancer) but you do it in teams and I walked 7 hours worth. Triathlon with our gym Boot Camp with our gym we went away for a weekend with 10 other woman... Tough guy/gal challenge all in the mud and up hills and confidence course stuff Round the bridges (6.3 km walk) in 1 hour and 7 minutes Triathlon with our gym It is the weirdest thing... if you ask my husband he still doesn't believe that I can be so addicted. I think it is because I have met some great friends there and people that are just as big and wanted to make friends too... Anyway I will stop typing now... he he he Mandy Re: New to group - Mandy Wow! You have already lost 70 pounds and you exercise 5 days a week! Guest guest
Mandy, Mandy, Mandy I love this story! I told my stepmom about it last night when we were mall walking. She eats only around 1,000 calories a day and exercises like mad but still can't lose that last seven pounds. I have a suspicion she needs to eat more to lose weight. > > I always get cravings!!! believe me!!! and until a month ago I was trying my hardest to ignore them until my Weight Watcher leaders had a huge talk to me as I was plateauing for 3 months. > > I was being too strict on myself and not having any treats and I was planning for a fortnight of food and never ever straying from it. Thanks for sharing this. I don't want to blow my whole plan because of one day, but I really don't want to measure out every bite, either. It's like a cupcake isn't really worth it today, because I'd rather have 1 cup of pasta with sauce and 1 Tb parmesan for the same calories. But on Christmas, if there is a nice spread, I might want to take more little tastes. > Last year I lost 400grams over the Xmas week but I still tried everything but all in moderation and I went for walks and bike rides.... I remember being like this at one time. Exercise is addicting because it makes you feel good. It just takes us big people awhile to get on the bandwagon. > I am addicted to exercise now and that is scary because I NEVER wanted to do exercise and would never think about walking to the letterbox let alone doing the things I have done this year. > I wanted to ask you about this triathlon. I am fascinated about how your cardiovascular fitness advanced enough for you to do this. Also what about your knees and ankles? My ankles can't handle my weight anymore and my knees are at their limit. I have the " fat lady waddle " because I can't push up at the ankle when I walk anymore. I consciously make my feet push off when I think of it, but the only remedy will be dropping pounds. At 270+ you are still a big girl. How can you run? Is it all in muscle strengthening? > Triathlon with our gym I have another question for you. Back when you were just starting out, before you loved to exercise, what did you do for exercise? How did you start? What exactly did you do for the first bit? I'm dying curious. Kim F
Guest guest
Hi Kim I don't go by calories a day but WW points but OMG your stepmom needs to eat more because her body is storing food because it doesn't think it is getting enough. That is why I never lost weight beforehand is because I didn't have anything till dinner and so I wasn't eating enough and at the right times for my body to exist. I hated exercise beforehand... I have flat feet and I had a floating knee so I didn't want to do anything. I started out with a DVD from Weight watchers that wasn't an exercise DVD but a DVD that said all it takes to get started is to get off my backside and walk out the door for 10 minutes and then walk back (which should only take 10 minutes). It was exilerating that is for sure. Since then I have just increased a minute each time I go out and in the end I was walking about 40 to 50 minutes then I went to the gym after losing 13 kilos (18 pounds). I went to the gym with a friend as a casual and I did 2 kickboxing classes a week and I did that for 3 to 4 months and I was getting bored and then I joined another gym closer to home and had a trainer that was all high on exercise and she did me a program and I did that for six weeks and felt comfortable going to the gym and a month after I started I met a lady there and we started going together. We did some kickboxing classes at the new gym and 6 months after I started there was a group that the gym started called Lean and there were about 10 woman in the team and they talked about food and exercise and then twice a week at 6am we would meet up and the trainer would do lots of different exercises with us and take us for walks and we made some good friends with that. The six things I did has been with the group of ladies in the Lean class. Every activity we did we trained together for 6 weeks beforehand and the trainer organised all the training for that. We did a lot of walking. I started the Lean group in January 2006 and 2 weeks ago I pulled out because the girl I first met at the gym was causing problems and she was deciding to come back in to the Lean group and a couple of us got out. So now I have changed my routine (and sometimes it is good to change or you stagnate my gym trainer said. The triathlon at the gym (I did 2) was: 1st Triathlon 10km walk (outside) 10km bike (in the gym) 2000 meter rowing machine (in the gym) 2nd Triathlon 12km walk (outside) 12km bike ride (in the gym) 4000 meter rowing machine (in the gym) 50 sit ups and 50 pushups (Technicnally it wasn't a triathlon but hey) Yes Kim I am still a really big girl and I don't overdo it on my knees but my trainer has been strengthening my thigh muscles so that they take the pressure and they aren't as bad as they used to be. I think sometimes when we are big we think we can't do something when in reality we can but we don't want to. Kim take baby steps and keep increasing your exercise a little each time... you can do this... you just need to want to do it. I don't want anyone to stop me feeling good and I feel that too bad on anyone else if they have a problem with how big I am. Because you are only hurting yourself if you don't try things. I used to be soooo worried about what people thought and in the meantime I was just getting bigger and bigger and it was only hurting me and my family. So Kim tell me more about you? How much do you weigh now? Mandy Re: New to group - Mandy Mandy, Mandy, MandyI love this story! I told my stepmom about it last night when we were mall walking. Guest guest
I weigh 257 pounds and I'm 5'4 " tall. I am 45 years old, have two daughters, 24 and 17, and have been married to my second husband for one year. From a small child I was told by relatives that I was chubby and I always thought I was fat. In the seventh grade I was 5'3 " and weighed 125 pounds. I started at that time skipping meals and coming home ravenous after school. I did not participate in any activities because I believed I was no good at sports and I was too fat. I graduated high school 5'5 " tall and 160 pounds. I was a single mom and weighed 155 pounds when I delivered my first child at age 20. I kept that weight and 8 years later had a child with my first husband. I delivered at 185 pounds and stabilized at 180 pounds after the baby was born. At that time I started doing exercise tapes at home. I also tried a variety of diet plans. My husband hated my weight and I hated being ignored so I left him. When I quit smoking six years later I gained 50 pounds. I married my second husband at 230 pounds and have piled on more weight by overeating, being sedentary, and probably from metabolic changes due to perimenopause. I have an addict's relationship with food. If I don't measure it and really think about what I'm eating, I eat the wrong things at the wrong times. Any variation from my plan sets off a compulsion to overeat. Oddly, any weight loss makes me feel PANICKY and causes me to eat compulsively. (What is that about?) I'm staying off the scale to avoid that effect. I currently wear a Women's size 22 pant. I'm going for a size 16. I will weigh myself at that time and reset my thinking and my goals. I pasted the paragraph below to my desktop. It perfectly describes the prison I made for myself over the years. > I don't want anyone to stop me feeling good and I feel that too bad on anyone else if they have a problem with how big I am. Guest guest
KimF Wow I loved reading about you and what has made YOU! It is lovely that your husband loves you for you and that is the way it should be aye. Do you go to a weight loss club? or have anyone in your town to keep you motivated? I know without my WW friends and the gym friends I wouldn't have been able to get through it and lately I have been wanting a bit more motivation so I joined this wonderful group. I have an addict's relationship with food. If I don't measure it and really think about what I'm eating, I eat the wrong things at the wrong times. Guest guest
Hi Sticking to what you like to lose the weight is the way to go as you are more likely to stick to it. I don't even know how to count calories find it sooooo mind boggling that is why I like the points as I tend to run the other way if it is too hard he he he. We have Curves in New Zealand now and our gym has just put together a little curves routine in our gym for the women... soooo good.
