THE WEIGHTY TRADITION

I forgot to tell you yesterday about a little tradition I practice before and after each holiday. Oh, before I tell you that, I want to say I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving experience, mind-wise. Okay, now back to my tradition. See, before and after every holiday, I weigh myself. That`s right! Yesterday morning at 5:15, I got on the scale, and this morning, I got on again!

Oh, I can hear you all gasping out there! You hate the scale, don`t you? Some of you even punish your scales by locking them in the closet or putting them in your big garage sale! You don`t have a good relationship with the scale and with what it has to say, and that`s a big problem. Some of you haven`t gotten on the scale in a very long time, like two or three years! Some of you have been gaining weight this year and don`t want to know how much, so you completely avoid the scale! Still, some of you avoid going to the doctor for fear he will weigh you, and worse, in your heads, for fear he or she will judge you.

Some of you weigh in once a month, once a week, or even once or twice a day! When some of you have starved yourselves in the past, you couldn`t wait to hop on the scale to see how much weight you`d lost in a day. Oh, the games we play with our weight!

The problem many of you have is that the scale tells you the truth, and sometimes we don`t want to see the truth! You know that I`m one of those who weighs myself daily in the A.M. You see, I have to stay at this weight, or those Dolfin shorts I wear won`t fit, and I`ll be in a lot of trouble! You may think that weighing yourself before and after a holiday is quite obsessive, and hey, it is! But I`d rather be obsessing over that than to be obsessed with the bowl of stuffing sitting to my left!

You decide how many times you want to weigh in monthly. My advice is for you to keep a journal of your monthly weight losses, we hope! Look at your journal from time to time to chart your progress. Talk about motivation!

And oh, I meant to tell you! My weight stayed the same... thank you very much!

Love,
