Guest guest
I want to lose weight because I feel so bad all the time. I cant live a real life with all this weight. I'm unhealthy.. I have high cholesterol and triglycerides and I'm diabetic too. I mostly stay in bed all day and wish things were better. I'm on a meal plan right now. I'm eating less that 1800 calories per day but I've stopped losing. I know I need to exercise but I just cant get my act together. My husband is planning to buy me a simple stepper soon and I will be able to do something at home without going into public places to exercise. I'm very self consious and I just cant take the public scrutiny. I will keep you posted on how it goes. A really good one to start with is Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds (WATP). She has various workouts available. I started out with a boxed set of two dvds. One dvd has two workouts. A 1-mile, 18 minute routine & a 2-mile, 30 minute routine. The second dvd has a 3-mile, 45 minute routine. I started with the 1 mile, 18 minute routine. I figured that I would have really have to work to find an excuse not to do 18 minutes. You can find out more about WATP at: http://www.walkawaythepounds.com/homepage.asp. I found most of my dvds at places like Target & WalMart. I workout at home. No one else is allowed in the room when I am doing it. You would be surprised at how much better you will feel about yourself when you start exercising. You will just start feeling better -- and have a more up beat outlook on life. I must confess that I have really slacked off on the exercising. And I can feel it. I really need to start working out again. Especially now that winter is coming on and the days will get shorter and the nights longer. Dacia <>< Deaf Lutheran Missions south Wisconsinwww.DeafJesus.org .. . . "Lord, to whom shall we go? Guest guest
I agree with Dacia no one is allowed in the room when I am working out. I have an elliptical i use it for 1 hour a day. That one hour a day is me time. I also use sansone dvds. I use s stuff the most. I need to get back to exercising I have been slacking in that department. I am going to go to walmart and buy one of those dry erase calendar to write on there which day I workout.I need to get a journal too to write down what I am eating and what kind of mood I am in for that day. I hope your all having a great evening. I cant believe the difference in the weather for one day. Yesterday it was 76 and today it was 46 with a windchill of 35. quite a big jump. Guest guest
Dacia, I like exercise videos and I even have a couple but the problem is that I can't keep up. I try and then get frustrated.I know it will take practice. I'm not very coordinated. Some of my psych meds affect my balance. I just do the best I can but that is lacking sometimes. I will maybe try again soon. Thanks for the suggestions. I just responded to a different post, but for the sake of not knowing which will hit the list first - I will post again LOL. I'm not on a "diet" - I hate counting calories, grams, etc. Weighing, measuring food, etc that you mentioned. I have tried all of those: , WW, pills, potions, lotions (yes, even that patch that makes it look like you are quitting smoking) LOL!! As I said, it isn't necessarily about "what" we eat, but "how much".... sure, I am not losing weight at the rate of some of the folks out there doing all of the above, but I am losing steadily and averaging .5 lb a week. I would rather do that and not feel deprived and not keep "going off the wagon" and have it stay off. I keep a candy dish on my desk at work. Someone asked me the other day how I can have candy and lose weight. I told her it's a mind control thing with me. If I can have it, it's ok. I get to work and right away take 4 pieces out of the dish (these are like tootsie rolls, kisses, mini candy bars from halloween) and put it by my computer monitor. I know it is "ok" to have those 4 pieces of candy if I want them. Sure, some days I don't touch them, other days, I have more. But, I have given myself permission to eat them if I want them. If I told myself "no, you are on a diet, you can't have candy " - then I obsess about them, I can smell them through their wrapper, etc and I focus on them until I have inhaled every candy in the dish. You get the point. I have pizza every week. But right now, I get the "De Lite" ones from Papa s, so thinner crust and healthier toppings (or less, not sure which) but I am still getting pizza and it's not "bad"..... We can make it work, really we can!!

The "stay in bed all day and hope things get better" screamed depression out to me, not just "I can't get my act together or don't want to exercise in front of my family" - winter time depression hits a lot of people and you don't have to suffer through it. I'm not saying you need to go on meds, I am just saying find someone you can trust and talk with if you need it through all this other "stuff". Please, please, please take care of you - you can't be a good wife, mother and employee if you work outside the home if you get all run down, etc. Let us know how things are going. Do what the other gals mentioned and do a video at home and kick the kids out of the room during that time or get up early and do it while they are all sleeping. If you haven't exercised for a long, long time, then you can't expect your body to be able to do a complete exercise video perfectly the first time you do it. Tell yourself you are going to do 10 minutes. Make that your first goal. Tell yourself that after one week of 10 minutes a day -- then you can do 12 minutes a day the next week. Build on that. If has been a long time since I've exercised. I need to go back to square one. I need to start over -- and I'm going to do it one step at a time. I have to tell myself that I can't do it like I was six months ago -- because I haven't exercised for 6 months. It is going to take time for my body to get used to it again. Correct me if I am not remembering correctly, but didn't you say you are a diabetic. Ask your doctor for a referral to a exercises physiologist. That is what I did. My exercise physiologist worked with me to develop a work out that I could do -- and one I could build on as I improved. In my opinion, an exercise physiologist is better than a personal trainer. They care about your health and will build a healthy workout designed for you. You may find that your insurance will help pay for the visit. If not, I found it was money well spent. (The cost of that visit may be equal to what your husband is willing to pay instead of a exercise machine.) Guest guest
Thanks, . I'm actually trying to get myself motivated to take them out of the box and put them in the VCR. The next step will be to actually do them. I have been walking more and christmas shopping. I have been doing it myself instead of using the little motorized carts like they have at walmart. Still a long way to go I know but I will keep trying to move forward. Guest guest
Dacia, I did go to cardiac rehab for a while but my heart rate would get so fast they made me stop. I spent most of my time there sitting and waiting. My doctor hasn't pushed me for exercise since then. I do what I can but I get out of breath easily. Thank you for the encouragement. Guest guest
, Thanks. These are good suggestions. The problem is making myself believe I can do the exercises. I'm so pitifully out of shape. About 4 years ago I went into a deep depression after the loss of my dad. I spent a year in bed before I was finally hospitalized. I've never fully recovered from that physically. Emotionally I'm on meds and doing better but winter is still a depressing time. It is hard not to sleep all day again. Another thing is that my pdoc just left and now I have to start all over with a new one. Wont see the new one until Dec. Until then I'm just trying to do the best I can with the help and support of people like you. Thanks so much. What, a year ago another member from MO #1 got over that hurdle in her own life (getting out of the motorized carts and walking while shopping) I know how hard it is to motivate and open those videos and put them in and do them, I had my own battle going on this morning. Come on, you can do it! 5 minutes, give it 5 minutes for the video... next time, aim for 7, then 10 and so on.... soon you will find you are doing the full workout. For mine, I did do the warm up and the "low impact workout" and skipped the cool down/stretches.... probably the most important part LOL, but that's ok for today. wrote: I did go to cardiac rehab for a while but my heart rate would get so fast they made me stop. You definitely have to go by "what the doctors order"... when we get to talking heart conditions and stuff.... be careful :-) wrote: The problem is making myself believe I can do the exercises. This is kinda hokey, but I love the movie Princess Diaries 2 and watch it over and over again (I watch other movies too, this one just fits LOL) and love the part where she starts talking to the children and saying "remember you just have to believe you are a princess".... you can do it, ! You can do anything you set your mind to. I don't want to down play your depression or psych condition or anything else you have going on (daughter situation, etc)... but if you don't want to leave the house to exercise outside, I would find something you can do in bed. You can lay there and do modified crunches and leg lifts and stuff. You mentioned your dh was going to buy you a stepper. Have him get you some hand held weights or something (you can use 2 cans of soup or something) and lay there and lift those over and over again. I'd make the house as bright as you can during the winter to help pull you out of that dark and dreary winter SAD thing too.... I think I mentioned before, try to get up, get dressed and going each day. I feel so much better after I have gotten up, showered and dressed. Whether I plan to do anything or not. OK, down off soap box now LOL and gonna go listen to my own speach and get into the shower... it *is* almost 11 here... my only saving grace is I did my workout video, had breakfast and read the paper....
