Guest guest
Sue, I've been taking it for quite a while, up to 200mg doses with meals. Despite all the veggies I consume, I still have a time with constipation. My doctor recently prescribed Magnesium Chloride because it is better tolerated gut-wise. If Epsom Salts (Mag Sulfate) don't bother you, try that. Can be very relaxing. I cannot tolerate sulfates, so cannot do them. I also just got a Magnesium Oil spray to use directly on painful areas. Swanson's Vitamins.com Magnesium Oil is a Mag Chloride Brine.(Dr. Barbara Hendel's brand). Seems to help. > > I have Fibromyalgia. What is the safe dosage of Magnesium Citrate? Guest guest
Just a reminder that you can make your own Magnesium Oil. Either use Epsom salts (for magnesium sulphate oil) or buy magnesium chloride flakes (if you are sensitive to sulphates). It is very economical and you can alter the strength. It usually has to be mixed with oil as it can be drying. Or follow up with lotion if you don't want to use oil. You can spray the bottoms of your feet after a bath or shower while the pores are open from the heat. Absorbs quickly. Search the archives or google magnesium oil recipe. You will probably find it on autism sites. I have a copy of several recipes - let me know if you are interested and I can dig for them. I think I might know where they are archived. Lastly, low thyroid function can affect constipation and increase cholesterol. First hand knowledge. HTH, Marti > > > > I have Fibromyalgia. What is the safe dosage of Magnesium Citrate? Guest guest
Marti: Which is the best Magnesium to take internally? I use to buy Magnesium Orotate, but find it too expensive. I was looking for plant sourced minerals, and bought some nettle and horsetail tabs, but am reacting to nettle, and perhaps to the horsetail too. Any suggestions much appreciated. Guest guest
Hi There, I follow any guidelines that the autistic population follow. The basic rule is any of the " -ates " are better than oxide. I think each person's genetics matters - if you have trouble with sulphates, then obviously that won't work but some of us are very low in sulphates - I can't get enough, so that form would be most beneficial (I sometimes put epsom salts in capsules as the taste is bad). My son (pre-CFIDS) does not absorb any supplements unless they are super bio-absorbable. He doesn't feel the the citrate form unless it is Ghilliam's ionic version. That is also the only citrate form he notices a difference (but we haven't tried the orotate due to the expense.) The oxides tear up his GI tract. He seems to manage the magnesium chelate mix (glycinate, citrate, malate). Some people do very well with the mag. taurate, again due to genetics. for our population, I think the Magnesium taurate or the glycinate or the malate would be our best choices. With citrate (maybe the ionic citrate) being a middle of the road. I would stay away from oxide. Here are some versions: Magnesium Taurate Magnesium Citrate Magnesium Asporotate Magnesium Oxide Magnesium Glycinate Magnesium Orotate Magnesium Malate Magnesium Sulphate Here is what I do to determine best forms to take of ANY supplement. I use the Klaire Labs Vita-spectrum versions since that multi-vitamin is used by autistic kids and the formula is very bioavailable. The magnesium form used in that capsule is the magnesium glycinate chelate. Some autistic kids use the better versions for genetic bypass purposes and if they still have constipation, they add in some citrate. http://www.klaire.com/prod/proddetail.asp?id=K-VTSC No financial interest.
