Hi M's Mom;

*I'm no expert*, but I'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong with a prolonged course of diflucan treatment (even the 25 days you mentioned) if there has been bloodwork to confirm liver enzymes aren't elevated, and your doc continues to follow-up on liver enzyme levels.

Having said that, my daughter has been taking antifungals for aprox 1 year. We DO alternate antifungals (diflucan, nystatin, amphotericin B) because she has slightly elevated liver enzymes - but they were elevated before biomed treatment started. We do blood draws every 4-6 weeks to ensure her liver is o.k

Hope this helps some -

Kim :-)

When people speak of rotating antifungals, I believe they are speaking of the "natural" ones like OLE, GSE, Oil of Oregano, etc. I don't think this applies to Rx's like Diflucan. I think it's fine to stay on the Diflucan for a one month period or even longer.

Just Bumping this up.Please anyone who can reply. Many thks.M's MomHello Everyone,I had a question on Diflucan. I have heard that yeast fighters should be rotated so that the body does not get used to it.Now if my child were to go on Valtrex and we use diflucan , should'nt we rotate diflucan w/ something else ? Is it ok to use Diflucan sayat a stretch for 20-25 days along w/ Valtrex.Any input is appreciated.Rgds,M's Mom--- End forwarded message ---

my son used to be on valtrex and diflucan, valtrex and lamisil, valtrex and nizoral. bottom line: the rx antifungals didn't help him much cause of the constip issues. the intestine always had plenty of food in it.

It seems that many stay with the same antifungal such as Diflucan for long periods of time. I think that Stan had his son on Valtrex and Diflucan for 9 months. A couple years ago when I worked with Dr. Sid Baker, my daughter had so much yeast in her body he recommended rotating rx antifungals every month mainly because antifungals may work differently for each child. He wanted me to evaluate her behavior to see if one antifungal gave a big WOW affect. I stayed with nystatin and didn't rotate them. Before we started Valtrex our dr. suggested 2 weeks of Nizarol. We saw some positive changes from the Nizarol. I may keep her on Nizarol for a month and then switch to Diflucan to see if there are any behavior changes. Hope this helps.

Mm's mom and others, from what I recall Stan has been saying he believes

that Diflucan may be doing more than just fighting yeast. Of course I

can't speak for him (and don't remember details) but watch this space

for when he is back.

Hi..I am a lurker. Our DAN wants us to try valtrex maybe next month.

I've been following this thread about Diflucan as it really interests me.

Meg has been on Diflucan/liquid for 2 weeks on, off, and now on again.

We are to stop and do a blood/check liver before doing anymore.

We have never used Diflucan like this and the difference is wonderful!

I am wondering what is causing it as it does not seem just yeast. I

think nystatin is only for gut and diflucan is a CNS target so could

it be that it is doing a dual job there?

No problem. I would try Nizoral then. Glad to see people are tackling fungus

along with

antiviral therapy. This really seems to better your odds.

diflucan. Has anyone else had this problem? It seems to be the yeast fighter of

choice when

using valtrex, but I'm wondering if we will have problems since this doesn't

appear to be a

weapon we will be able to use.

Was he poorly?

Vaccine?

Change of diet?

Have you had his thyroid properly checked?

If you can figure out what happened they you can look at fixing the underlying problem. Sorry I don;t know anything about growth hormone.

Hi Dave we are using diflucan at the moment for yeast overgrowth and

he is doing fine. We last used it in April when we had lots of IV's

and he became very stimmy. It took 2 weeks to work last time. We are

chelating with DMPS supps which are meant ot be 75% effective ( IV's

being 100%).

Hi Dave

Yeast is a huge issue for us. We have tried Diflucan but it didn't

work for us (yeast was obviously resistant). However, there were no

ill effects and I think it's a fairly " safe " drug.

BW and hope it works for you

We love " Differs " in our house. Unfortunately you will pay through the

nose for it if you can't get your Doctor to prescribe it (and you'll

need a good story unless he's pro biomed, because there's a warning

that young kids can get liver-failure from it - although Dr. J McC says

she's been using it for long periods of time for years and nothing's

ever happened).

I think Mandi dug up some research - apparently it does more for our

kids than merely kill yeast - whenever we use it with our Son he has an

upsurge in his development. We love it in our house but privately its

£60 a bottle.

We've just started using OLE and we're finding that's really working to

keep Yeast at bay, although quite bitter so you have to dilute it a

lot, but its a natural yeast killer and anti-viral. Low and slow if

you consider it, its quite potent.

Cheers, good luck

Hi there

Our son has very bad candida and we asked our doctor for Diflucan for 4 weeks on the advice of our nutritionist. Very much against her better judgement she has agreed to 1 week's supply. Does anyone have any advice on whether this is enough or if it would be counter productive and what we should follow on with?

many thanks

If I have time I try and find out for you - can always educate the GP after the event
