My understanding was its the lack of methylation that causes depression. As its

required for converting building blocks into mood stabalising neuros like

seretonin/dopmaine. So surely getting methylation working is main priority - and

that may require more than just SAMe. It take 2x200mg so far but it hasnt helped

so much. I guess each person may be different.

Hi Sue. I take 1000 mg SAMe per day -- in two divided doses of 600 mg and 400

mg. I've been taking SAMe for 4-5 years.

I noticed a breakthrough in emotional state when I upped it to 1600 mg a few

years ago (however I felt improvement in mental processing very early -- after a

couple of weeks of starting). 1600 mg is supposed to he the therapeutic dosage

of SAMe for depression. I've been able to drop it back down to 1000 mg/day, to

maintain myself.

You have to raise your daily dosage very slowly -- you can't just jump right in

with a larger dose: a few days or a week at 200 mg, a few days or a week at 2 x

200 mg, a few days at 2 x 200 mg + 1 x 200 mg, a few days at 2 x 400 mg, and so

on. It can take several months to ease yourself up to the optimum amount for

yourself, which I've read is an individual amount.

Take in two doses every day on an empty stomach: an hour before food or two

hours after food. I've also read to not take it after 3 pm, because it can

affect sleep if taken too late in the day.

This is so timely, as I am working with some sort of depression.

May I ask if you have an economical source? SAMe is NOT cheap.

I just bought some from Swanson's: 60 tabs at 200mg for $14.99. Anybody have a

better source? Gail
