Guest guest
We see this fairly frequently, I have had good luck additing 2-4 mg of elemental Copper (usually from sulfate or gluconate). The iron may be disproportional -- she's getting about 100 grams of elemental iron, which is necessary. Also check the MVI, ironically some don't contain copper because it decreases shelf life. Finally, be sure her calcium supplement doesn't have high levels of zinc -- it is frequently added to plus formulations for bone health. Jeanne Blankenship, MS RD Sacramento, CA -------------- Original message from "jeannie_reed04" <jeannie.reed@...>: -------------- We have a patient with low copper (55, normal at 75) at just over a year s/p bypass. Experiencing no unusual symptoms. She is taking a good MVI, Calcium, D, B1, B12, 65mg iron, Ocuvite, flaxseed, and omega -3. No extra zinc, vitamin C, or other supplement like Airborne or Emegen-C that may inhibit copper absorbtion. Her typical intake includes beans, cheese, eggs, and chicken or beef, fruit. One Diet Coke and Fresca each day. Any ideas why her copper would be low and how concerned should we be?Thanks.
Guest guest
Copper and zinc need to be monitored as they oppose each other. Can't take them together. Taking too much of one will make you loose too much of the other. With CFS it is common to have too little zinc, but copper can be quite tricky. Good article on this: http://www.tvernonlac.com/copper-toxicity.html Good job on recovery of energy. > > Anyone familiar with copper and zinc treatment? Thanks. >
