I haven't tried it, but it also doesn't indicate what KIND of B-12 it is. I have

Hydroxy B-12 drops and I put them in water, I wonder if I could put them under

my tongue instead.

Marty Pall uses hydroxocobalamin in his protocol. It is a potent NO

scavenger and helps downregulate the NO/ONOO- cycle. The other forms

are not, and we certainly don't need the cyanide from cyanocobalamin,

the commonly used form of B-12. My CFS is fairly minimal now, since I

treated it myself since 1992. However, my MCS is way more bothersome.

I use the hydroxo for that, and it's helped tremendously. I get mine

compounded from Key Pharmacy. (NFI) I currently pay $69.89 for a

three-month supply. Good hydroxo doesn't come cheap. Those using

hydroxo for CFS report good results, too.

I briefly skimmed through Mercola's website and didn't see a mention of

what form of B-12 he uses. A lot of what I saw sounds like hokum, IMO.

I use hydroxo sublingual drops and nasal spray. I would never dilute it

in water and drink it. You want to avoid the G.I. tract completely! It

is poorly utilized from the G.I. tract, greatly reducing any benefit.

The Mercola spray is B12 as cyanocobalamin (1.2 mg)...label attached...

The following explains the difference between it and hydroxocobalamin.

----------------------------------

From:  http://www.prohealth.com/library/showarticle.cfm?libid=15118:

Which Vitamin B-12 is Better – Hydroxocobalamin or Cyanocobalamin?

The name vitamin B-12 is used for a group of cobalt-containing enzymes

called cobalamins. (It's the cobalt that gives B-12 its red color.) There are

several members of the cobalamin family, but cyanocobalamin and hydroxocobalamin

are two of the best known.

• Cyanocobalamin is the type of B-12 found in most supplements and in

prescribed injectible forms - largely because it is inexpensive and the most

stable form of B-12.

>

>• However, studies have found that hydroxocobalamin raises B-12 levels

higher and lasts longer than cyanocobalamin.(2)(3)

>

Another interesting fact – cyanocobalamin contains cyanide. It's actually a

cyanide molecule attached to a cobalamin. Although the amount of cyanide is

miniscule enough that it is not thought to be harmful to most people, it could

be dangerous for those who have cyanide metabolism defects or kidney failure.

There is also the possibility that it could be toxic if taken in extremely large

doses.

On the other hand, hydroxocobalamin has a high affinity for cyanide. It pulls

the cyanide out of the mitochondria of the cell and combines with it to form

cyanocobalamin, which is then excreted in the urine. In 2006 hydroxocobalamin

was approved by the FDA as an antidote for cyanide poisoning.

Since cyanide is present in cigarette smoke (and essentially reduces the cells'

ability to use oxygen), hydroxocobalamin would be a good option for smokers

seeking a B-12 supplement.

------------------------------

Thanks, GG

Hi, Amy and the group.

High-dose B12 by itself has been found to be helpful in ME/CFS, beginning with

the work of Drs. Lapp and Cheney several years ago. However, since late 2004

and the work of Jill et al. in autism, followed by the clinical study

performed by Neil , M.D. and myself (reported in 2009) it has become clear

that the main key to lifting the partial methylation cycle block in ME/CFS is to

take high-dose B12 together with active forms of folate. For more information,

I encourage you to view the video and/or look at the PDFs of the slides here:
