HIGH cholesterol very high. Tried niacin per my integrative MD's suggestion and seriously had a near death experience. Does anyone have a natural approach?? I'm not going for low, low numbers, just something in the low 200's. God Bless, Sara
Guest guest
Hi Sara,  My cholesterol was high for 8 years or so and I couldn't figure out why. I thought I was eating healthy. Breakfast smoothies, salads with homemade dressing, stir frying veggies in olive oil, etc.. Didn't realize that 1 tbsp. of EVOO has 14 grams of fat and 120 calories. Add in the fat on labels of other foods, and it totaled more than I suspected.   In February when I first saw Dr. Fry, he put me on a lowfat diet, 15 mg. or less/day. At that time my total cholesterol was 245. In April it was down to 177 and is now 175. I didn't realize how much fat I was consuming until I had to start label reading and counting.  Kay ________________________________ From: grammie2304 <sarawilliams.williams@...> Sent: Saturday, October 15, 2011 7:01 AM Subject: Natural alternatives to lowering cholesterol?  Just got my six months labs back------all good in the hormone, thyroid world---even my prothrombin time was normal. Guest guest
Did this affect your weight at all when you started eating low fat? This is helpful for me too since my cholesterol is at 240 and not budging to come down and I don't want those meds. Marcia Natural alternatives to lowering cholesterol? Guest guest
Sara, High cholesterol can sometimes be from low thyroid or if one is on thyroid meds, not enough medication. Guest guest
A friend was put on red yeast rice by his son to lower his cholesterol, which worked. I have my husband on it. We have yet to do blood tests as we have no medical insurance but he has had no reactions to this. We wanted to stay away from statin drugs if possible. Try googling this and reading up on it. in La Selva Beach CA On 10/15/2011 7:01 AM, grammie2304 wrote: > > Just got my six months labs back------all good in the hormone, thyroid > world---even my prothrombin time was normal. Guest guest
I tried that also and did get mine checked regularly and it never helped get mine under control. Also tried grapefruit seed extract, policosanol, niacin and can't remember what else, none of the helped bring mine down. Marcia Re: Natural alternatives to lowering cholesterol? You're not avoiding statins by taking red yeast rice, and you may be exposing yourself to a nephrotoxic mycotoxin. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_yeast_rice Jeri <teewinot13@...> @>--->---->-------------------<----<---<@ Dr. Pall's NO/ONOO- Theory/Treatment Discussion Group: TenthParadigmSociety @>----------<---------->-----------------------<----------<----------<@ The Tenth Paradigm - Dr. Pall's Website for CFS/MCS/FM/ETC.: http://www.thetenthparadigm.org @>----------<---------->-----------------------<----------<----------<@ MCS-Florida - For All Chemically Sensitive Floridians MCS-Florida
Guest guest
Hi Sara I tried Ayurvedic medicine to bring cholesterol down naturally. There are plant sisterols, red rice, curry leaf crushed in porridge in the morns and during lunch and dinner. Some articles in pubmed can be found on all the above, as for avocado juice and cabbage juice. Packed with minerals as well as sulphur!! There is much out there to bring cholesterol down. Do you suffer from thryoid dysfunction? Guest guest
I found this information that might help. http://www.healthy-heart-guide.com/soy-and-cholesterol.html http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/cholesterol-lowering-supplements/CL00013 http://articles.cnn.com/2009-08-20/health/cholesterol.lowering.supplements_1_bad\ -cholesterol-lipoprotein-ldl?_s=PM:HEALTH My cholesterol was 286 a year ago. Now it's down to 228 or so. My bad (LDL) cholesterol is what went down. My HDL is still in the good range. The supplements I take that may be helping are soy and DIM (it contains broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables). I also cut back on fatty foods. I'm not sure what lowered it. Maybe a combination of the 3? http://www.dimfaq.com/ http://77ingredients.com/ingredients/cruciferous-vegetables/ > > Take a look at this page (natural treatments for high cholesterol): > > http://healthlibrary.epnet.com/GetContent.aspx?token=e0498803-7f62-4563-8d47-5fe\ 33da65dd4 & chunkiid=22378 > > Ellen > > > Just got my six months labs back------all good in the hormone, thyroid world---even my prothrombin time was normal.
