Guest guest
Hi Steve, While Reeves is a doctor (a psychiatrist), he is still Public Enemy #1 for our population. He believes that ME/CFIDS is a psycho-somatic illness. It is not a physical illness but mental illness. While childhood trauma may be a factor in developing the illness, this paper does nothing to help us but rather hurts the research efforts. Reeves has been in charge of the research dollars CDC/NIH and I believe has been removed due to funneling money to other projects. Since politics isn't allowed on this forum, please research his name/work. I think you will find that you will no longer be posting his work on this forum. Guest guest
Interesting I did not know that about Reeves and his bent ,,,, Thanks The article was still helpful to me as it shows how trauma can affect the body While I think an ideal life would minimize CFS healthy support systems healthy outlook etc I don't think it will " cure " it . Diet ,air, water. our own genetics ,infectious agents and emotional health I think all play a part Steve On May 9, 2011, at 2:33 PM, marti_zavala wrote: > Hi Steve, > While Reeves is a doctor (a psychiatrist), he is still Public Enemy > #1 for our population. > > He believes that ME/CFIDS is a psycho-somatic illness. Guest guest
Hi Marti, He may not believe that it is wholly a psycho-somatic illness. please read the study I just read yesterday on a forum about three genes being linked to cfs which would make it entierly out of peoples control. www.depressionforums.org/forums/topic/4998-chronic-fatigue-syndrome-linked-to-th\ ree-genes/ > > > > > > > http://www.endfatigue.com/health_articles_c/Cfs_fm-child_abuse_can_lead_to_cfs_f\ ibromyalgia.html > > > > > > Reeves is an author. He doesn't used the accepted criteria for defining who has CFS. You have to remember he has an ulterior motive, which is to prove CFS is a mental illness. And why weren't the papers released for scrutiny? Too many people do not know how to properly evaluate a piece of research. You cannot take it at face value. You need to critically analyze the paper by asking: What type of study was it? Who funded the research? Was the subject sample properly chosen? What criteria were used? Is the subject sample large enough? Who conducted the research? What are their prejudices and their agenda? Who do they represent? Was the research conducted properly? Was it control matched? Was it double blind? Etc. Two perfect recent examples come to mind: Vitamin E study of a couple years ago, concluded that Vitamin E is dangerous and can cause cancer. I heard this on the news. I thought this sounded crazy and did some research. Turns out the study was retrospective. It looked at 19 other studies that had already been done. The new study was paid for by a pharmaceutical company who had vested interest in having Vitamin E look bad, since they are marketing a competing drug. As it turned out, the research that showed Vitamin E to be harmful had used synthetic Vitamin E, which is not utilized by the body in the same manner as natural Vitamin E and can indeed cause problems. None of this was reported on the news. People started to panic and stop taking Vitamin E, exactly what the pharmaceutical company wanted. They count on laymen not knowing how to evaluate studies and believing everything they hear on the news or read on the internet. The recent calcium supplement study (last month) that says calcium supplements cause heart disease and heart attack. This is a debate that's been going on since at least 2007. This latest study again was not properly reported. The correct conclusion is that people who start taking calcium supplements later in life have this increased risk. Those who started years prior do not. They do not know why and have said that more research is necessary. The news did not report this and people started panicking and giving up their calcium supplements. I've been taking them for over 20 years and am not about to stop. I even wrote my local news affiliate and took them to task on their poor reporting. So, before you jump to conclusions about any research paper, you need to do your own research. Guest guest
why is this even a surprise? people with abusive backgrounds tend to be drawn to more abusive, promiscuous people, and perhaps are not as careful at taking care of themselves. this might account for at least some of the people who were infected sexually. > He may not believe that it is wholly a psycho-somatic illness. please read the study I just read yesterday on a forum about three genes being linked to cfs which would make it entierly out of peoples control. www.depressionforums.org/forums/topic/4998-chronic-fatigue-syndrome-linked-to-th\ ree-genes/ Again, the problem with Reeves is that he uses " CFS patients " that do not really have CFS.
