Guest guest
Hi there, You must make the distinction between D2 and D3. D2 is prescription and is dosed at higher levels. It acts differently than D3 which is available OTC and is dosed in the thousands (not tens of thousands). I would NOT take 40,000 units of D3!!! Personally, I feel that D3 is more effective. I am supposed to be on 5000 units of D3 per day but have difficulty with more than 500 units. I can't remember why - brain fog. Normally, D2 is prescribed at high doses weekly for several months as it takes a long time to raise D levels. After reaching optimal levels, the dose is either reduced or the time between doses in increased. My son (pre-CFIDS) was prescribed 4000 units of D3 until he moved to Massachusetts. Then his dose was increased to 5000 units. I would taper up (although several people here do not believe that there can be a reaction). My son has had no reaction and can start and stop his doses without issue but I cannot seem to go past 500 units. Major die-off or detox. Guest guest
I wouldn't, but if you must, go up gradually. GPs are not the most nuanced of doctors. Ellen Dr. RX: 40,000 IU D2 once a week! My GP says I am low in vit D. Wants me to take nothing less than a 40,000 IU in one pill 1/week. Normally 800 IU get me all wired and thirsty. Have difficulty sleeping with that dose. However some D I find beneficial. Has anyone had a good experience with the 40,000 IU dos Mr Raba Been a member from start of forum, but do not post much. Guest guest
Mr Raba I am also low in vitD and I also get mentally hyperactive and develop insomnia when I supplement it even at low doses.Right now I am thinking on three issues. -I read that vit d increases dopamine. I am low at serotonin. And also possibly at gaba.So I wonder if it is causing neurotransmitter imbalance -I read that vit d needs magnesium. So I will make a trial period with extra magnesium. -it is said that persons with kidney insufficiency may not metabolize vit d properly. I hope that is not the problem. If it is that is important issue. What do you think on these? let's share if we find a solution to this problem. best wishes nil Dr. RX: 40,000 IU D2 once a week! Guest guest
{Moderator: From free blog - not pay service} Dr Cheney is sceptical about high doses of vitamin D as well. " Vitamin D3 is regulated by P450 enzyme systems that are in turn decoupled due to low NADPH levels in CFS. This raises important questions regarding the reasons that may underlie low D3 levels typical for most CFS cases. The finding of increased intracellular calcium by UK investigators may also play into the reasons for finding low D3 in CFS. Given these deeper issues that may underlie D3 levels suggests that aggressive D3 therapy may not be the best course of action in CFS. D3 is a highly regulated pro-hormone and there could be good reasons for it to be down-regulated in CFS. Guest guest
HI NiL!!! Long time! Well I tolerate D2 much better than D3. I just took 800 IU with magnesium and tolerated it better. I am going to try to increase D2 slowly. I get energy when I take D2. So I am tryng to ride that wave. > > Mr Raba > I am also low in vitD and I also get mentally hyperactive and develop insomnia when I supplement it even at low doses.Right now I am thinking on three issues. > -I read that vit d increases dopamine. Guest guest
Thank you Keth. I do not D3. I learned long time ago that direct hormone application is not a good idea for me. The quesiton I have in mind is what Cheney says about D2. Do you know? It might be OK since the body in theory can make D3 at the rate it wants?
