Primary care doctor has no idea who I should even see at the VA for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Any ideas? What type of doctor could help? Thank you! Guest guest
Hi Sue, My time with an endo has been the most beneficial as I had both adrenal and thyroid issues. Now that I am addressing thyroid (after 9 months of adressing adrenals), I am feeling stronger, my recovery time is better, my brain fog is better, my temperature control is better. Unfortunately, it took a while to find a good one so I wasted alot of time with bad ones. I would call the office and ask if the doctor prescribes Armour or T3. If they only use Synthroid - I was pass and move on. Unfortunately, like ME/CFIDS, good endos are hard to find. There are several thyroid groups in the that have good doctor lists. If you are near Houston, Dr. Vivian is the best. HTH, Marti > > > > I go to the VA. I have both Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia. Guest guest
hi sue. personally, i think CFS is caused by chronic infection. because recent studies implicate a retrovirus (XMRV / MLV), i would see an infectious disease doctor. i dont know if the endocrinologist would be a waste of time or not; perhaps you could take them a copy of the studies and see what they say. they could probably suggest a treatment for some of the symptoms you are having but eventually, i think you will need an infectious disease doctor. ________________________________ From: sb2boys <sb2boys@...> Sent: Sat, September 18, 2010 5:21:47 PM Subject: Re: Question about what type of doctor to see  My Primary Care doctor is referring me to the Endocrinologist. Guest guest
I believe it's a chronic infection too. Past doctors found 4 viruses that keep reactivating in me. I think it's an immune system disorder and that's why we get all these viruses and can't fight them off. I don't think it's any one virus. > > hi sue. personally, i think CFS is caused by chronic infection. because recent > studies implicate a retrovirus (XMRV / MLV), i would see an infectious disease > doctor. i dont know if the endocrinologist would be a waste of time or not; > perhaps you could take them a copy of the studies and see what they say. they > could probably suggest a treatment for some of the symptoms you are having but > eventually, i think you will need an infectious disease doctor. >

I don't think it's any one virus. Hormones affect immunity, especially thyroid, also low or high cortisol. CFS can be the result of many causes, and shoring up and balancing hormones is a good thing to do on general principles. Conventional MD standards and testing re hormones may not be optimal. Thyroid patient communities can sometimes be more useful starting places, though these differ in their views and approaches as well, and I don't recommend self-medicating with Rx meds.
