Hi, Jeff.

I've know of people who shipped samples directly to Acumen Lab from the U.S. and

had the tests run. Several have sent their results to me. I know of someone

who has done it from Australia as well. The email address is

acumenlab at hotmail dot co dot uk

If you write to Dr. McLaren at this email address and ask how to do

it, I think he will send you the details.

Best regards,

Rich

You can order these tests yourself by going to the website and printing off the

order form & filling it out.

You just have to have a doctor or chiro who will accept the results since by law

the lab cannot share them directly with the patient.

I don't know about the shipping aspect from the states ...but these were some of

the easiest tests to get.

and his wife turned these tests around in one day for me. Shipped them

friday from london. Had the results Monday.

Can't beat that.

Louella,

Do you mind sharely your results from your tests?

Are there effective treatments for abnormal test results?

I may be interested in having this done. I have a great doctor who will help

me.

thx Nat

Acumen tests the stability of blood before doing the tests. They ideally

like to get blood within 48 hours of collection but say that blood is

almost always fine p to 72 hours. You would need a health professional

of yours to contact the lab and organize the collection and shipping for

you.

This site gives full details of the Acumen Profile tests and includes a typical

letter from Dr Myhill to a GP interpreting reults and recommended actions.

Hi Louella,

the Accumen Mito test done by Myhill from what I understand isnt available

to people outside the UK (I'm in Australia). I had mine done in Mar 09 just

before they stopped doing them for international requests. Below is the info

that appears on her web

http://www.drmyhill.co.uk/wiki/Mitochondrial_Function_Profile

If anyone knows different please let me know as my current doctor is very

interested and has been asking me how I went about it for his other patients.

For other Australians if these test are at all possible I paid $35 to PathLab to

have the blood drawn and $95 to send with FedEx to UK.

MESSAGE FOR NON-UK RESIDENTS APRIL 2009

THE AVAILABILITY OF THE MITOCHONDRIAL FUNCTION PROFILE TO NON-UK RESIDENTS

SUSPENDED

The publication of the article " Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Mitochondrial

Dysfunction " in the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Medicine in January 09

has created a huge amount of interest in the Mitochondrial Function Profile and

resulted in very many test orders from around the world. Whilst I am delighted

to be able to help as many sufferers as I possibly can, the volume of orders

coming to my practice is threatening to exceed the capacity of both the

laboratory that does them and my practice. Therefore I have reluctantly decided

that for the time being I am suspending the availability of the Mitochondrial

Function Profile to non-UK residents. This situation may change in the future

and any change will be announced on my website.

However, much can be done to treat chronic fatigue syndrome without resorting to

tests! Many of my patients get well without having to do the mitochondrial

function test, simply by working through my standard work up for chronic fatigue

syndrome as iterated in the CFS book

Hi crusaderD,

I sent my girlfriends blood from Australia (Perth) to Acumen several

weeks ago. The note on Myhill's website is just about her assisting in

the process. Anyone can send blood to Acumen directly. No special test

kit is required.

Hi

Ditto what blake said. I think a lot of folks were confused by myhill's

statement...

I would deal directly with McLaren at Acumen. It's just a small

operation as I understand it. He and the wife are hands on & were extremely

helpful when I & my mother ran the tests.

Even threw in one for free for my mother.

I would think they would be happy to get the business because the NHS ...British

health system.. still doesn't buy the tests as I understand it.

I heard this from some idiot NHS CFS specialist who I consulted several months

ago when I was back in the UK. I think he'd just had a meeting with McLaren

who was trying to interest him in these tests.

I digress here, but this CFS " specialist " had no interest in testing my viral

titers, but was all agog that my parents had split up (I am 42 folks! 42!) &

appeared to think this could be germaine to my medical history.

It is STAGGERING how backward UK doctors are in the treatment of CFS. My head is

exploding as I write this.

It would be nice to think that one day they will be held accountable for their

negligence, stupidity, ignorance, lack of professionalism, but I think that is

probably a fantasy.
