Guest guest
I would search this group for " Vitamin K " and you should get a lot of info. It has been discussed here several times and not too long ago. Tara > > Greetings all, > > I believe its called a vitamin K shot . The shot thats given newborns > right after birth. Guest guest
it is to help the blood clot. I know some people are against it, but I haven't had any problems with it. it's not a true vaccine and AFAIK, vit K shot is benign. there are much more important battles to me. I also did have rhogam and it did have thimerasol in it and I was nervous about that but I didn't know what to substitute it with. Guest guest
I thought that some information here not too long ago said that the Vit K shot was linked to leukemia. Guest guest
Yes, you are correct, Trish. Sheri N. sent many post regarding this in the past. They should be available by searching the list's achives. Guest guest
Hi, I have been no mail for a long time but recently rejoined. I vaccinated my son (5) for the first 6 months but I was worried about it so I stopped. My daughter (2.5) has never had a shot. I gave her liquid vitamin K instead of the shot when she was born, which I bought from a pharmacy. It was very easy to give, no problems at all. It was a great solution for me and my midwives were comfortable with it.
Guest guest
My daughter's hospital birth was very traumatic, but we knew we weren't going to give a vit. K injection. Our doctor was very supportive of giving it orally, but we had to fight with the nurses who just wanted to give her a shot or use an artificial nipple to give it to her. I don't know if the oral vit. K actually did anything, but with all the trauma that my daughter had to her head from the delivery, I felt better giving it to her. We never even discussed Vit. K when my son was born. The birth was much less traumatic (of course), and so I wasn't concerned. in IN Loving wife to Fred (03/18/00) Proud mama to: Abigail Frances (8/13/02, homebirth transfer) Frederick Leland (7/9/05, born at home!) > Hi, > I have been no mail for a long time but recently rejoined. > > I vaccinated my son (5) for the first 6 months but I was worried about it so > I stopped. Guest guest
Hemmoragic disease of the newborn is EXTREMELY EXTREMELY rare, and they give it with the idea that the vit K will prevent it. How they can know X prevents Y when Y is SO RARE.....I have no clue. It is a theoretical thing I think. It is NORMAL for mammals to have low vit K levels at birth, steadily increasing over the first few days of life....why tinker with something that is normal AND inject unecessary stuff into a newborn? My son had Vit K but I did not know any better at the time. I wouldn't do it again. If you worry about HND, there are things you can do to increase your own Vit K intake and that can help....and there is oral Vit K available....but I still would question its necessity.
