Guest guest
Hi , Remind me where you are in the UK? I can't see why the hospital would ask about your son's vaccination status - or at least, why they would make a fuss about it. Would his referral it be as an outpatient? How old is your son? Has your dentist said that they will want to use IV abx, or are you just assuming that? And what anaesthesia is proposed? Which tooth is it? Does it definitely need to be removed, or is this an *expedience* thing on the dentist's part? I had a mass of work done at the Bristol Dental Hospital when I was 17 - it is a teaching hospital and I was *experimented on*, for want of a better expression. I had fiour molars amd a premolar removed on the pretext that they had abscesses - I later saw the x-rays and guess what? No abscesses. They will do unnecessary work if allowed to get away with it. There are a fair few *holistic dentists* in the UK, including homoeopathic dentists - more in the London area, I would have thought, and I think you are in that area? If you post this on INP I am sure that there are two or three members there who have contacts with holistic dental registers so do ask. Above all, don't be rushed into anything if it isn't desperate - I realise the dental situation is bad in the UK - it was long before we left - but I think you are right to be concerned about the whole procedure for a young child and you need to do as much research as you can. Good luck! Love, light and peace, Sue > It is likely that the dentist is going to ask us to refer our son to the > local NHS hospital to have a tooth removed. Guest guest
Hey Sue-- I will def post on INP and see what they say. I am in London. Remind me where you are in the UK? I can't see why the hospital would ask about your son's vaccination status - or at least, why they would make a fuss about it. Would his referral it be as an outpatient?>> I am not sure if they would ask-the only model of healthcare I am familiar with is the US system and they would CERTAINLY ask. I am sure the referral would be for outpatient treatment. How old is your son?>> He is 2.5 (wow!) Has your dentist said that they will want to use IV abx, or are you just assuming that? And what anaesthesia is proposed?>> I am making the assumption, and since the referral has not been made I don't know if the anesthesia would be general or more of a sedation type thing. Which tooth is it? Does it definitely need to be removed, or is this an *expedience* thing on the dentist's part?>> The tooth in question is his right eyetooth. He has had a bad situation with the enamel on his top front teeth (and everytime someone said 'oh, juice in a bottle' I just had to scream, kwim?)--stress in pregnancy being the most likely cause of the defects. As a result, all of those teeth are slightly problematic--but the eyetooth on the right has rotted itself right off, but there is still tooth in the gum socket. I am unsure if it is causing him pain, but have begun to suspect it might be causing problems for him. Hence, my even considering it all.... I will post on the INP list and see if folks can send him to someone. Part of the problem is that cash is horribly tight right now--we're borrowing money every month until our stupid house in the US sells or DH gets some work......sigh... Thanks Sue!!! My husband had fillings done for healthy teeth just so the dentist could make money from it. Ingrid >
