Guest guest
I wanted to mention, for all those about to have babies in the hospital, my last experience with the hospital staff and eyedrops. We had a birthplan that specifically said NO eyedrops, in addition to having discussed it with our midwives. It is a state law here in Kentucky that they have to have them, but I was adamant about not doing it for a number of reasons which I won't get into b/c I am pretty sure it has been covered here before. Anyway, the point I want to make is that even though we said we didn't want them and they all KNEW it, immediately after the baby was born my husband went to watch them attend to her and the midwife distracted him, saying she needed help moving some equipment. In those few seconds while he assisted her, the staff put eyedrops in her eyes. I was STEAMING MAD!! That's all it took was a brief distraction and BAM they did it behind our backs. This, despite the fact she was having trouble breathing--it was MORE important for them to put those stupid drops in her eyes than to worry about her breathing. I think people should be aware of this as it pertains to ANY unwanted procedure or shot for your newborn. You have to watch that baby like a hawk the whole time you are in the hospital. INSIST that the baby does not leave you EVER. If they insist on weighing and measuring or whatever in the nursery, have your spouse or family member accompany the baby. You never know what they will do behind your back. Be aware!
