Hello, my name is Crystal. My husband and I have 2 daughters - one

6 yr old and one 6 month old. My first was born in a hospital with

a CNM - natural, yet some things were done " routinely " (eye drops,

vit. K, episotomy). Although we did the Bradley Method natural

childbirth classes and I learned alot about birth, I still had a lot

to learn. We vaccinated and did exactly as we were told to do. I

studied the books that told me when my child should be doing what.

ugh. I am proud of the fact that I breastfed longer than typical -

my daughter was a toddler. My first hasn't had any reactions that I

can name - although she is very hyper and talks so much. She almost

seems she can't stop herself. But my view could be biased by the

fact that I was quite the opposite as a child and don't have

experience with many children.

My second was born at home with homebirth midwife and apprentice - a

waterbirth! It was amazing - I am still on a high. I did the

research this time around and elected not to do certain things at

the birth and after, including my recent decision not to vaccinate.

I am interested in this list as a result of my homebirth and the

community that exists around that. There are plenty of women out

there that are thinking for themselves and chosing what they feel

is the best for their family, even if it is not in the norm. I

don't have that kind of network in the small Georgia town I live in,

and hope to gain from and give to the other thinking women in this

group.

- Crystal
