Its hard to tell someone what it is without trying to explain it as it is

180 degrees different than what most of us were raised with thinking

Here is more concise definition from Dana Ullman, homeopath

WHAT IS HOMEOPATHY ANYWAY?

Homeopathic medicine is a natural pharmaceutical science that uses various

plants, minerals or animals in very small dose to stimulate the sick

person's natural defenses. The medicines are individually chosen for their

ability to cause in overdose the similar symptoms the person is

experiencing. " Homoios " in Greek means similar and " pathos " means disease

or suffering. Since one's symptoms are actually efforts of the organism to

reestablish homeostasis or balance, it is logical to seek a substance that

would, in overdose, cause the similar symptoms the person is experiencing.

The medicines, thus, go with , rather than against, the person's natural

defenses.

and this is also concise

Homeopathy is based on the idea that large doses of a substance cause a

symptom, while very small doses of that same substance will cure it.

What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a system of medicine based on the principle that

a disease with a given set of symptoms can be cured by a

medicine (remedy) which is known to produce a similar set of

symptoms. This principle where " like cures like " is called

“The Law of Similars” and is the foundation of Homeopathic

Medicine.

Dr. Hahnemann

Homeopathy involves the selection and prescription of a medication

(remedy), which through prior testing on healthy people and from clinical

experience and observation, is known to produce a similar symptom picture

to that of the patient. The medication (remedy) is prescribed in the

minimum dosage required to bring about (stimulate) healing.

WHAT IS HOMEOPATHY?

HOMEOPATHY is a therapeutic approach based upon on experimentally verified

law of pharmacology - THE LAW OF SIMILARS: " A pharmacologically active

substance administered to a person in good health triggers a series of

symptoms. These can be cured by the same substance when given in micro

doses to a patient having these problems " Thus, Ipecac in large dose causes

vomiting: in a small dose diluted and energized according to Hahnemann's

method becomes one of the remedies for nausea and vomiting. Opium in a

significant dose paralyzes the smooth muscles of the intestine; in a

homeopathic dose it becomes one of the elements for treating constipaton.

'Simila Similibus Curantur' Likes are cured by the likes, that is,

substances which in a strong dose cause symptoms, heal these same symptoms

when they are administered in a small dose.
