Guest guest
Right after birth they give an eye ointment, and vitamin K shot. The eye ointment is if the mother has a STD it will not pass to the child, so if you dont have one, they dont need it. The vit K is b/c some mothers are lacking in vit K at birth and a lack of vit K in the babies system can lead to a brain bleed (hemorage) as I understand it, as long as you took good care of yourself, it is unlikely that your baby will have a problem. Hep B is a shot that they give before the baby goes home. All you have to do is tell the nurses and doctors not to vaccinate the baby and also make a birth plan stating your requests and hand out to every nurse and doctor that walks into your room and also post one on the door. The doctors or nurses will try to talk you into giving the shots but just stick to your guns and refuse them. they can not and will not vaccinate your baby if you say not to and it is in writing. > > What vaccines do babies get in hospital when born? > And how do you go about telling the Doctors and Nurses that tend to > your baby that under NO sercumstances are they to give your newborn > baby any vaccines. Guest guest
<< If you want to avoid vitamin K, know that it is probably a good idea to get the shot if you have a forceps, vacuum, or traumatic delivery and the baby has lots of bruising.>> That's fascinating. When my youngest was born via a traumatic c-section, the nurses were more pissed that I didn't want her to get the crap in her eyes than the Vit K shot. And she did have a fair amount of bruising from the dr trying to get her out (slid sideways, got stuck, we both ended up bruised). Natural sunlight is the best for jaundice too. )0(~~~)0(~~~)0( Mom to Brittany, born 08/31/93, dx'd IDDM 05/28/01; , born 06/28/97; Shayna, born 06/01/00; and Baby #4 due 05/07. Guest guest
Best treatment for jaundice is to put baby naked in natural sunlight, and breastfeed regularly. Breastmilk helps establish normal bilirubin levels. Sue xx > > Natural sunlight is the best for jaundice too. > > >
Guest guest
Regarding the hep b, you could also say you just want to wait until the babies first " well " visit to make him " sick " ....OH DEAR!.....I meant to give him the shot....Anita danerescue6 <tsthumper1@...> wrote: Right after birth they give an eye ointment, and vitamin K shot. Guest guest
<<I do notunderstand why they were upset with you not getting the eye ointment. A child born vaginally has a better chance of getting the STD through the trip down the birth canal than one that is born caesarean section, although gonorrhea can be systemic.>> I was completely baffled as well, I was still in the recovery room and there was this nurse reeming me out for it. :-( I think it was because I challenged them, I didn't just follow the rest of the sheep. Besides all of that I didn't have any STD's anyways. )0(~~~)0(~~~)0( Mom to Brittany, born 08/31/93, dx'd IDDM 05/28/01; , born 06/28/97; Shayna, born 06/01/00; and Baby #4 due 05/07. Guest guest
I don't know if this was already said but I thought I had read that not clamping the cord until after it stops pulsing, should also help with either Vitamin K or jaundice problems. I got a huge lecture from the hospital pediatrition for not giving my daughter the Vitamin K shot. Guest guest
YOu are absolutely correct. However when my nephew was born, by caesarean section after forty hours of labor, receiving vitamin K, he had jaundice. My sister, in terrible pain, dutifully brought him every day for treatments until one day she got fed up with the treatments and the waiting and told them she would not be back the next day as she had an appointment with her pediatrician and she would get his opinion. The hospital threatened her with CPS and the loss of custody of her son. So much for caring hospital staff. The very next morning, as she sat in the examining room as the first patient of the day, the hospital called, making sure she was there. The pediatrician laughed and said he did not understand why hospitals like to scare new mothers that way. In the opinion of the pediatrician, my nephew was fine. His bilirubin levels were low enough in his professional opinion to be nursed and suntanned to resolve the problem. --- mum2mishka <mum2mishka@...> wrote: > Best treatment for jaundice is to put baby naked in > natural sunlight, and > breastfeed regularly.
