The neurological disease, called Guillain Barre Syndrome, can occur either spontaneously or after certain infections, often in healthy individuals, according to the FDA. It typically causes increasing weakness in leg, arm and other muscles that can be severe and require hospitalization. The disorder usually resolves on its own, although some people may have residual neurological deficits. In October last year, the FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued an alert saying there had been five reported cases of GBS following administration of the vaccine, Menactra. In a statement yesterday, the agencies said there have been a total of 15 confirmed cases of GBS among people between 11 years and 19 years of age and two additional cases in people age 20 or older. Those people are recovering or have recovered, they said. The FDA said, however, that there isn't enough evidence to blame Menactra for the disorder and that people should continue to follow their doctors' recommendations. Sanofi-Aventis couldn't be reached for comment. Meningococcal disease is a major cause of bacterial meningitis, an infection of the lining of the brain and spinal cord, and blood-stream infections. The disease affects about one in 100,000 people between 11 years and 19 years of age annually. -------------------------------------------------------- Sheri Nakken, R.N., MA, Hahnemannian Homeopath Vaccination Information & Choice Network, Nevada City CA & Wales UK $$ Donations to help in the work - accepted by Paypal account earthmysteriestours@... voicemail US 530-740-0561 (go to http://www.paypal.com) or by mail Vaccines - http://www.nccn.net/~wwithin/vaccine.htm Vaccine Dangers On-Line course - http://www.nccn.net/~wwithin/vaccineclass.htm Reality of the Diseases & Treatment - http://www.nccn.net/~wwithin/vaccineclass.htm Homeopathy On-Line course - http://www.nccn.net/~wwithin/homeo.htm
Guest guest
Kay, I didn't know so many people recover from GBS. I thought it was degenerative with no real cure.............Anita Kay <Casper3@...> wrote: Another former post by Sheri. Guest guest
This has been known for some time (the 70s), and it's way more than 12 cases, that's for sure! Glad someone in the media could finally catch up to the rest of us. Very glad to see this coverage. Guest guest
I have personally only known a couple of people who had GBS. They all recovered. There is no cure for GBS, just supportive care until it ends, which can take months or even years to fully recover. Here is a link that tells about GBS: http://www.cnn.com/HEALTH/library/DS/00413.html Are you thinking of ALS maybe? Guest guest
Is it a virus that runs it's course? I can't look into the link just now, but will get to it later. Thanks, Anita Kay <Casper3@...> wrote: I have personally only known a couple of people who had GBS. They all recovered. Guest guest
It's an autoimmune reaction where the immune system attacks the nerves outside the brain and spinal cord. Guest guest
Well, I know it's not ALS. No one that I know of has ever recovered from ALS and that's what mymother died of. I do know there are many cases of GBS after a flu shot. Re: Rare Illness Seen After Vaccine - WSJ.com > Kay, I didn't know so many people recover from GBS. Guest guest
And I believe there have been a few reported cases of GBS after the gardisil shots as well. So sorry about your mom. I don't know much about ALS except what I saw when I recently watched the movie Lorenzo's Oil. But they said only boys were affflicted. I hope I'm not screwing up the diseases again.......Anita Clemons <clemonsmary@...> wrote: Well, I know it's not ALS. Guest guest
Sounds so serious its a wonder anyone recovers at all..........Anita Kay <Casper3@...> wrote: It's an autoimmune reaction where the immune system attacks the nerves outside the brain and spinal cord. Guest guest
Yes, GBS has been linked to several different vaccines. ALS is also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. But I think that's ALD from that movie. Too many abbreviations to keep track of. : ) Kay Re: Rare Illness Seen After Vaccine - WSJ.com > And I believe there have been a few reported cases of GBS after the > gardisil shots as well. Guest guest
So sorry about your mother, . I think Anita was thinking of another disorder than GBS since GBS isn't a degenerative disorder. That's what I meant when I suggested maybe she was thinking of ALS since it IS degenerative and always fatal. Guest guest
Perhaps it's bedtime for this tired and wornout mama. Guest guest
It IS an awful disease. The sister of a friend of mine had it several years ago. She had a trach and was on a ventilator for quite some time. The scary thing is your mind isn't affect. The victim hear everything that's going on around them, but they're paralyzed and unable to speak. And it IS potentially fatal. Even conventional medicine admits that vaccines can be one of the triggers for GBS. Kay Re: Rare Illness Seen After Vaccine - WSJ.com >> >> >>> Kay, I didn't know so many people recover from GBS. Guest guest
Thanks. I've never seen that movie. It did used to be predominantly men, but it's moved into women now and their cases were growing by leaps and bounds and she died in 1995. Guest guest
I have an aunt who developed GBS soon after the swine flu vaccine back in the 70's. Thankfully she recovered. Although since then she has had horrible health problems. I have personally only known a couple of > > people who had GBS. They all > > recovered.
