Thyroid in CFS

Hi,

I know I've asked this question before, but I just want to ask again.

How many people have thyroid problems along with CFS?

I am gradual onset, and for years I got my thyroid tested when I went

to a Dr. for fatigue, and it came back normal. Then I crashed, got my

thyroid tested, and my TSH came back elevated.

My Dr. put me on thyroid meds, and I could not tolerate them in the

slightest. I became completely unable to sleep, my pain increased, my

thirst increased from drinking a gallon of water a day to a gallon

and 1/2 or a gallon and 3/4. My mood improved though. I tried several

times over the years to take the thyroid meds and it always was the

exact same. Maybe other symptoms benefitted or worsened, it's been a

couple years since I've tried taking the meds.

My Dr. refuses to believe me. Every time he asks me if I'm taking my

thyroid med, I tell him no, and he asks me why not. It's like who's

on first. I've been reading on pubmed about CFS, autoimmune diseases,

thyroid, etc. and it seems like they all tie in together.

This is a problem because I'm trying to get him to test me for the

immune dysfunction tests like NKC function, t-cell, etc. to have some

sort of objective evidence for disability, since I've basically been

housebound for the past 3+ years, but he's reluctant.

My question is this. Has anyone else tested for high TSH, taken

thyroid meds, and not been able to tolerate them? What did your Dr.

say?

I'm sure there's more to ask, but it's late and I'm tired, so maybe

tomorrow I'll remember.

Thanks.
