Alternate reasons why methylation protocol might be working.

I probably should just get over it, but it makes me sympathetic to

see people get their hopes up on what might not be accurate/complete

information.

Some reasons why the methylation protocol might improve people but

not cure them-

Sam-e and whey protein have also been noted to be beneficial to

PWC's. It seems this would be because PWC's are said to be low in

glutathione, a major detoxifier of the body, as well as a precursor

to many major bodily processes and chemicals, such as

neurotransmitters and immune system componets. From what I've heard,

people on methylation protocol react similarly as people who take sam-

e/whey protein for building glutathione. From the

initial 'honeymoon', to the eventual overloading of whatever system

it is that gets overloaded from sam-e/glut, it sounds exactly the

same. One thing that might be suggested is to pulse the sam-e or whey

every two or three days and give the body time to clear out

the 'leftovers'. Also, if someone cannot take sam-e, then undenatured

whey might be suggested, since they seem to produce similar results.

Folinic acid has been noted to improve function in PWC's. This might

not be only due to an improvement in methylation, but also to a

detoxification of ciguatera and/or any other toxins produced. See

here- http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?

I remember reading a while back on how active viral replication robs

the body of basically the same stuff that methylation protocol

proponets claim is missing because the methylation cycle is 'broken'.

It might not be broke, just continously being robbed. So any attempt

to fix it could be misplaced, since it itself might not be the cause,

just another symptom, albeit one that's pretty high up on the food

chain.

And that's basically it. No cure, just a couple seperate treatments

for different symptoms of CFS.

I'm not trying to start a fight, just offer an alternate explaination

as to why or why not these treatments might or might not work.
