Guest guest
This is an e-mail I got from a friend of mine who lives outside of Chicago. She was supposed to go see her dh's family up in Michigan over July 4 but didn't go. She has a three-month old baby, an almost 2 year old and one who is almost 4. Obviously we don't see eye to eye on it. I have told her that there are many on this group who have kids who have gotten the WC even though they were vaxed. Here's what she wrote: Sheri B. " We found out last night that D’s cousin’s daughter came down w/ whooping cough – she caught it while they were up north for the 4th. She’s just over 3 months old, poor thing. I’m just thankful that we didn’t go w/ the baby. She would have been around 5 weeks old at the time, and we would have been around the same family who’s child had brought it with her from home (they didn’t know at the time). Anyway, the baby, Sadie, has been hospitalized for 5 days (I think she’s going home today). From what I’ve read, it’s potentially fatal for infants, but much milder in adults. So scary. At any rate, the family who carried the disease up there has had to contact everyone they were around etc. to let folks know. I think they’re trying to determine where their child got it (daycare?). I’m not sure but I think that the child who carried it wasn’t fully vaccinated b/c she’s too young to have gotten all her shots ( I think actually she’s a baby – could be wrong about this). The baby that caught it had only had 1 shot at that time. Doesn’t seem like the vaccine is meant to last long term (at least from what I gather at this site: http://www.drgreene.com/21_1155.html ) and it doesn’t provide absolute protection. Since it’s not so bad for adults and teens, I suppose it’s not necessary that they have protection… " --------------------------------- Messenger with Voice.
