Vaccines not causing deltoid muscle fibrosis: Vietnam study

A preliminary study in the northern Ha Tinh province Monday by the Hanoi

central children’s hospital ruled out vaccination as the cause of a deltoid

muscle fibrosis epidemic sweeping the region.

The study made on 700 patients with deltoid muscle deformation there found

those with exposure to non-vaccine shots like antibiotics and other drugs

were four times more vulnerable to the disease than those without.

The Ministry of Health had earlier ruled out vaccinations as the cause

pointing out that many 60-year-olds, who had never been vaccinated, were

among the victims of the disease.

The research team is now focusing on injection methods and drug

concentration besides studying other possible causes like environment,

water, and food.

Deltoid fibrosis is a condition resulting in the contraction of the deltoid

muscle fibers in the shoulder causing deformity.

Over 2,000 cases have been reported this year in northern and central

provinces like Ha Tinh, Thanh Hoa, Ha Tay, Son La, and Phu Tho.
