Guest guest
I would check it after your period. I had a hard lump when I was 16. When I went to see the breast specialist, she said that many women get them before their periods. I was very worried and had her try to aspirate it, because she said that if it were just a cyst, then that would do it. Nothing came out, so I had surgery. It turned out that I have fiborcystic breasts and one of them had just became irritated, or something like that. It was pretty scary. This is one situation where I would definitely see a specialist if it isn't gone after your period. -- Sara Proud Mama to Colin 12/07/99 Jack 8/07/02 -------------- Original message -------------- From: Anita Durney <mydurney@...> I just had a shower where I usually give myself a breast exam. I have a hard lump of a mass larger than a pea and fletter in shape. Should I wait for my next period to come and go or should I go for a digital mamogram or thermogram? I have lost track of my period, but have one coming soon. Anita --------------------------------- Travel Find great deals to the top 10 hottest destinations! Guest guest
It's to the right of my right nipple about an inch away. Guest guest
I've never had anything but a manual exam though my gp has been after me since I turned 40 three years ago. I'm so afraid of a benign situation being blown into something much worse. I got a postcard in the mail for digital mamography. never heard of that before. Thanks, Anita SaraShaughnessy@... wrote: I would check it after your period. I had a hard lump when I was 16. Guest guest
Think of your breast as a clock face. Describe the location according to a time on the clock - e.g. 7 o'clock, 9 o'clock. Just to give a better idea of location. Are you still nursing? Is it mobile - can you move it around gently or is it fixed? Is there any discharge from the nipple? Try not to worry, Anita. I realise it is scary, but statistically the vast majority of lumps turn out to be innocuous. They are far too fond of charging in and operating when watchful waiting might be better. If you do get it checked out by a doctor, I would opt for thermography if possible. Don't add to your radiation load. Keep us posted. Guest guest
Thanks Rolf. About a month ago I was experiencing tenderness in the same place. I take a lot of physical blows from my 5 year old autistic son Henry, and sometimes I get elbowed or kneed in the breast when lying in bed. Many times when I'm drifting, I am awakened by a painful fall by him on my body. Maybe it's flaring up again because my period is coming. Part of me wants to go for a thermography or a digital mammography, but I the other part is hesitant and I'm sure you know why. Anita Rolf Martens <rolf.martens@...> wrote: Anita, According to a new theory in medicine which I'm convinced is correct, though I still know only little about its details, such lumps are due to the body's response to a shock or conflict, a sort of repair program. As far as I understand, the lump will go away, and quicker if you find out what was its cause. And surgery should be avoided; it will only do harm. There's a homepage in English for the New Medicine at: http://www.newmedicine.ca/ It has an address for questions too. Rolf M. Guest guest
No discharge from the nipple. If you were facing the breast, it would be at nine o'clock. I haven't nursed in 4 years. It's shaped like a disc and seems to have movement. I'm torn between the digital mammography and a thermography and don't know yet if either is covered by my insurance. Guest guest
I spoke to my mom whom has had Breast cancer twice. She has always informed me her lumps NEVER were painfull. Hope maybe that helps amy Re: OT: Hard mass in one breast Anita, I'm not sure how reliable this info is... but I remember hearing that pain or tenderness in the area usually (not always) indicates there is NOT a problem. Kind of like morning sickness is correlated with less incidence of miscarriage. I don't think that should influence your decision on what to do, but it might put your mind a bit more at ease while you weigh things. Though I've never found any lumps, my breasts are almost always sore the week before my period... I've gone through phases of this all my life. Vitamin E can help with the tenderness. > > Thanks Rolf. About a month ago I was experiencing tenderness in the same place. Guest guest
I can remember hearing or reading that somewhere too. Thanks for sharing that with me. I think I'll wait for my period to come and go before I make any decisions about testing. Guest guest
Anita, I have been following this thread and I just have to speak up... my best friend had a lump like this in her breast and it hurt. The doctor told her it was nothing, and to " let him worry about it. " Thank God she did not listen! She got a second opinion, and it was cancer! PLEASE do not mess around with something like this... It is probably nothing, but just think of what could happen if you wait. Please go check it out, at least. My friend is now 5 years cancer-free, by the way. Just please don't let this go for long. Guest guest
Wow! That's a reality check. I do tend to minimize my own problems. My husband isn't comfortable with this either. I guess it wouldn't hurt to have sonogram. I have been advised to have it checked by a few people. That's probably what I will end up doing after my next period. Thank you. Guest guest
The mass is still there, but less painful. I am aware of it all day and can't stop thinking about it. There is absolutely no breast cancer in my family that I am aware of, though they say that makes no difference. I am still waiting for my period and can't for the life of me remember when I last had it. My husband seems to think I have missed a month. Is that a bad sign? I decided I should have a sonogram, but I have recently lost my lifelong GP (due to insurance changes) and need a prescription for it. I really hate starting all over again. Even though she was as allopathic as they come, she understood me and respected my feelings. Thanks for checking in on me Janlucy. Guest guest
How would I go about decreasing my radiation load. I suppose I could treat myself to a neutralizing bath of salt and baking soda. I could stay off my computor, but I don't think I'll last long without it. I've been at it for less than two years and I'm totally addicted. Any suggestions? Anita Hello Anita, How are you feeling?
