I heard this mentioned on the news last night and I couldn't believe what I was

hearing. They make this country look so stupid. I wondered how the reporters

could even say what they were saying with a straight face. I had to just change

the channel.... so completely depressing.

So what should pregnant women do, considering they're advised to stay away

from Tuna?

(CBS 5) We may not know which of the deadly strains of the bird flu will

eventually hit the U.S.

But Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt is offering a rather

specific warning about how to prepare for the disease. He urges Americans to

buy extra cans of tuna and powdered milk and stash them under the bed to get

ready.

It's not the first thing you might think of to protect yourself against a

potential pandemic.

" Let me acknowledge that no one in the world is prepared for a pandemic, "

Leavitt said this weekend at a conference in Wyoming. " When you go to the

store and buy three cans of tuna fish, buy a fourth and put it under the

bed. When you go to the store to buy some milk, pick up a box of powdered

milk. Put it under the bed. When you do that for a period of four to six

months, you are going to have a couple of weeks of food, and that's what

we're talking about. "

Leavitt, on a nationwide tour to raise awareness on the Avian flu, is

raising some eyebrows.

Some people that CBS 5 talked to said it reminded them of former Homeland

Security Secretary Tom Ridge saying duct tape and plastic wrap were supposed

to protect us from Anthrax.

Now, tuna and powdered milk are being offered as solutions for the Avian

flu.

It's a good reminder we should always be prepared for an emergency, says Art

Reingold of the U.C. Berkeley School of Public Health.

But in preparing for a bird flu pandemic, Reingold says he'd like to see the

federal government focus on preparing a vaccine, which is still years away

and getting more money to local authorities.

" There really is not a strong enough public health infrastructure either on

the laboratory side or the epidemiology side or the other aspects of public

health that will be important, " Reingold said. " If you have a vaccine to

help the pandemic, that's going to be way better than saving tuna and dried

milk. "

I had the same thoughts. Yeah, like if I had to stock up on something it would

be mercury laden tuna and antibiotic/hormone-filled milk. Gimme a break!!

I don't ever think it's a bad idea to keep a few jugs of water and some canned

goods around, but let's face it, if something BIG happens, how long you gonna

hold out on a couple of cans of fish and a few boxes of powdered milk? The

world won't be the same place and that won't buy you a whole lot of time. I'd

rather go down with the ship, frankly. The rest of the suckers left around

won't be having much fun.

I don't really care about the bird flu in general. I am more interested in

knowing how to build up health other than immunity but, through diet maybe.

I don't believe about the bird flu. I have read the articles and such. That

is far away from my mind, don't worry. Jenn L

Hi Jenn --

I'm with you -- prevention (building the immune system) makes more sense

than reacting to whatever might be going around. What's that saying... An

ounce of prevention, is worth a pound of cure.

All you need is know!

(Catchphrase invented by me just now, adapted from a

boring tune with misleading title by those beetles, some

To know, that is, there there is NO " bird flu virus " , no

risk of contagion, so there's no reason to worry unless

you're one of those chickens etc raised under somewhat

bad conditions and thus risking stress, undernourishment

or certain poisonings.

The whole thing is a scam by the politicians and the media.

For details, see some earlier postings to this list, some

by me and some (repeats from Jon Rappoport) by Sheri N.,

or the " UNITE! Infos " #251en and #252en at my homepage -

easy to find; reproduce statements by virologist Stefan Lanka

and others.
