Guest guest
i try to use a minimum of 3 tsp in all kinds of manners: - for frying (usually, the only thing i tend to fry is scrambled eggs) - for any cooking that requires oil, including adding some vco to pasta water - in smoothies, i use both vco and coconut cream. i simply liquidise the fruit (i tend to stick to pineapple, with some lemon or lime juice, ds prefers banana, papaya, mango etc - any fruit that is sweet-ish) and add slightly warm oil (put on radiator for a few minutes) i also use vco mixed with either evening primrose oil if i'm in a cold climate or mixed with a little bit of beeswax if i'm in a hot climate as a moisturiser. and at the end of a long day, i find nothing more relaxing than a nice warm bath with a blob of vco melted into it and a few drops of essential oil of vanilla. hth claudia --- " Sheri B. Guest guest
Kali and I started by taking 1 tsp. coconut oil per day. I give us the weekends off though. On the 3rd day K had die-off. But, we are also taking the 1/2 tsp. goat yogurt and 2 acidophilus tablets per day. One in the morning and 1 at night. Maybe her die-off was due to the fact that she was already on the others that could cause the die-off. When I started the coconut oil, it was the icing on the top of the heap that I was giving to her already that made the die-off. I saw it when we first started taking the goat yogurt also. Just in her though. I think my problems are going to be much harder to get rid of becuase I've had them for much longer. Anyways, I wonder if the article was talking about overdosing on the coconut oil. I did not follow along quite well while i was reading it. I hope I can find it today. Guest guest
I do cook with the coconut oil as well but, don't agree with taking lg. amt.'s of anything. Except vitamins and food if needed. Some nice ideas here though claudia. Guest guest
i don't know about overdosing with coconut oil. i mean, until the veg oil lobby got ever powerful, maybe 20 or so years ago, no more than that i'm sure, literally all cookies and commercially made cakes contained coconut oil or palm oil, but mainly coconut. it was cheap to buy and what's more, it was naturally hard at a fairly low temperature (around 24C). only when the powers that be discovered/utilised hydrogenation was all the good oil replaced with the crap that's contained in today's commercial cookies etc. claudia --- Jim and Jen <jlessard@...> wrote: > Kali and I started by taking 1 tsp. coconut oil per > day. Guest guest
Die-off is definitely different for everyone. You can find out more info. if you type in Herxheimer reaction on google or . It just means that the bad bugs are dying and your body sometimes shows symptoms while removing the dead garbage out of your system. Kali has dark circles around her eyes with every die-off. She is also very hyper, I believe trying to work it out of her system. Before we started any of these, her stools were very hard, dry, and very dark that hit the bottom of the toilet like a bullet. First we saw the white specs. Then, 101* fever that she had off and on for 3 days and out came green mucous- a lot of it. Then, it was green D. Then, it was yellow and then white with different consistencies. The different colors, the specs and consistencies are major things to look for. My daughter regresses while the die-off and then after always makes some kind of cognitive gain. This is why I am here. She fell off the chair last night and bumped her head hard enough to cry and I consoled her and looked at the bump and she said " awww, sorry " for the first time ever appopriately. Die-off can be downright terrible for these guys and their behaviors so, I give her the epsom salts baths to reduce the symptoms a little. You can also give activated charcoal about 45 min. after the yogurt, probiotics, coconut oil, etc. She had die-off 2 weeks ago and she had a 103+ fever. It was scary for me because it was a very fast rising fever. The fever helps burn the bugs out. This was a massive die-off period for her and she is much more calm now. I sometimes see the calmness and other times I do not. Here's a site you can go to to get some more info. on die-off and how to handle it better. You see, when a massive die-off reaction happens, your body gets overtaxed with the garbage and sometimes it is too much on your liver etc. I believe this is why K had white stools after the last die-off round for 3 days. A bad die-off can actually be damaging to the body if it is too much too fast. Here's a site you can visit for info. on die-off: http://www.modernherbalist.com/dieoff.html There are other sites too. I go to pecanbread for my info. because I am a part of that group. They know lots about diet and die-off. ! Guest guest
Kali found a " bad " cookie in her dad's pc room this morning and yelled " cookie " . I immediately jumped up from breakfast and ran to see. It was a cookie. Dad took it away before she took a bite. He gave her one of her cookies instead. She said, " no, kaka " and threw it! I say that to her when she puts non-food items in her mouth(she has PICA). She also tripped on her dad's big foot this morning and said, " oops " . I know this, with every dieoff reaction we are seeing lately there is a big improvement! She has used more words in the last 3 days than in the last 2 weeks. We need to keep going with this. It's working! Guest guest
Unfortunately, we must go through the die-off periods in order to bring out this language in her. As much as I hate them. Guest guest
I can't remember what PICA actually stands for. K was diagnosed with having PICA after I had to give her the heimlich 3x's in 1 year due to her eating everything in sight. We have been able to get her detoxed enough to get her potty-trained, sleep all night, and she now has been eating only white toilet paper instead of everything in sight. She does have some other issues but, we are working on getting her whole body better now and not just one thing at a time. Her Ped. GI Dr. told me that PICA was a nutritional deficiency in every patient that he has seen so far. He has been able to help them stop this behavior through supplementation. We just haven't gotten her test results back for that yet though. Guest guest
Also, Anita I think wanted the dieoff info.? I found out that you are suppose to work your way up slowly with your probiotics etc. so as to be used to it and not react from it. You probably won't see a bad reaction if adding more slowly but, you may still see the stool changing colors. Hopefully, still seeing the progress also. Guest guest
Another reason why Kali's system was overtaxed the last time she saw dieoff was because I gave her vermox because she had worms and then her other supplements stuff also that day. It was too much for her to handle. The med. alone was bad news. I have been giving her the daily now and she has not seen a reaction like that one since. Hopefully, never again. We want slow improvement that lasts. Guest guest
Ok, so it's an eating disorder resolved by supplementation due to a deficiency. Approaching one problem at a time is always best Jenn. The autism recovery process requires an inordinate amount of patience doesn't it? You seem to be doing a great job! Guest guest
Thanks Anita. I sure do need the support. We are working hard everyday to keep her on a schedule. She was in an ABA school for 2 years with barely any progress. Now, she is in a smaller one-on-one class and learning by floortime. By the way, she hasn't gotten any shots for about a year and a half or more, and never will again. Just when I think I cannot handle anymore, Kali teaches me that it's worth it all! Guest guest
I know what you mean Jenn. Autistic children have a way of redefining certain words we thought we knew the meanings of. Patience and understanding come to mind first. Of course love itself has been most certainly transformed from what we thought we knew it to be before they came; at least for me anyway.
