Guest guest
it didnt smell at all - but 14 hours is a long time to have it sitting out on the bench... all the health related sites i visited stated you shouldnt leave it out for longer than an hour. they said it takes 24 - 72 hours to see symptoms - so 2 more days of worrying (i know i shouldnt but cant help it a little). it was just so scary when they said 35% of people infected die and many survivors have permanent kidney damage (intensive care and dialysis!). so far so good so my fingers are crossed. just about to give her another dose of transfer factor and probiotic. im just hoping that she is strong enough to cope with a little bacteria (or maybe alot of bacteria?)... i do everything else right so heres praying! roweena x On 20/01/2006, at 2:16 PM, Chelly wrote: > Roweena > Did the Chicken smell funny or anything? I wouldn't worry too > much...you'll make yourself ill! > > Chelly > >  Re: Re: E coli - Food Poisoning??? You will make yourself sick worrying about Audrey and then IF she does get sick you will be toooooo tired to look after her. Try to let it go. You need to be strong for her. Guest guest
You know, I've been thinking about this all day. My mom is from rural Louisiana - she's close to 70 - and her grandmother's farm didn't have a refrigerator. So she's relied all these years on " how long we left things out at mama's house " . (And she was a biology major with an emphasis on bacteriology back in horse and buggy days) There have been times things were left out all night occasionally - and no one ever got sick ( I have however, gotten food poisoning from Carl's Jr. Chicken - so I do know that's not something you want to see your 2 year old have, and it's not something to be taken lightly). I think with just basic chicken in winter weather - normal room temperature, you'll be fine. The acidophilus and if it were me, I'd add extra vitamin C to help boost the immune system, should make everything fine. I'd worry much more about mayonnaise or something like that. it's funny, almost anything I give my daughter I sniff first - Chicken and beef both have a smell to them on their way to bad - it doesn't even have to get there for you to notice it. Re: Re: E coli - Food Poisoning??? Guest guest
Hi Roweena, We spent our honeymoon in Colonial burg and learned from a tour guide they used ice houses for food storage but typically saved leftovers from dinner over night unrefridgerated and ate it for breakfast. Can't tell you how many got sick though. Like anything else, it's a matter of suceptibility. Guest guest
I would recommend following the safety guidelines on cooking/storage temperatures/storage time of meat / poultry/ eggs exactly. The bacteria (salmonella, e.coli, etc.) that can multiply exponentially in these products is not something to experiment with. I have read that Children and the elderly are more at risk for getting food poisoning. I had food poisoning once (probably staph. aureus which can be milder, I was not hospitalized) but it was still a very bad experience that I do not want to repeat!! Re: Re: E coli - Food Poisoning??? Guest guest
Back in the old days, the chemicals used nowadays wasn't even heard of, so I'd say that it's the chemicals (obviously) which cause the problems. Chemicals reacting with meat going off. Bleh! This topic is really startig to put me off eating meat/poultry. Except for a little cert/organic once in a while... Mind you, we have a poultry farm up here near the highway who call themselves organic and they use canola & corn for their chickens! Canola- brake fluid. Corn - how do I explain this one..... seeds combined with pest control so that the farmers don't have to spray the corn anymore. you just EAT the pest control as well as the corn........ Yum. Not. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN HOW/WHY THESE PEOPLE GET AWAY WITH THESE THINGS?? VACCINATION, POISONOUS TOX CHEMICALS IN OUR FOOD, WATER, COSMETICS, 'HEALTH FOODS'??????? Cheryl's comment about sniffing food reminded me - I am hearing impaired, and so have a fairly sensitive sense of smell and have on " several " occasions stated that some meat/chicken is going off..... dh doesn't listen, 'cos he's hungry. Guess who then gets sick! Me thinks he just likes to have a whinge and expects sympathy, which he doesn't get from me for his stupidity. Male stupidity it's called! Do we want to start a topic on this one, or shall we let it go?! LOL! Guest guest
Ah. Bastard. you got that right!! Yep, I am. If he won't listen to me and admit that I am right, why would I waste my time and energy feeling sorry for him when it doesn't have to happen in the first place???! I have to look after myself and our child they are my first priority. Not gonna sit around worryingabout something that I can't do anything about if he won't wake up to himself. (that mean, hard bitch!! Not.) http://www.onegrp.com/?McGrath One Group (Organic & Natural Enterprise) The world's FIRST extensive range of certified organic skin, body, hair, oral & health care products - certified by Australian Certified Organic (ACO) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to the highest international food standards ... Guest guest
audrey woke at just after 6am complaining of a sore tummy - she normally sleeps till somewhere between 7.30 and 9am... she is having tissue salts every half an hour and so far so good - outside of sore tummy - no runny stools or temp or vomitting! im sure she will be fine and i will give a remedy if its needed... keeping a close eye but not too worried (certainly not passing on my fear as sheri suggested - was just trying to be prepared!). it was from our roast chicken shop up the road and it is certified organic... just a very long time to sit at room temp! thanks for all the positive thoughts everybody! rowe x On 21/01/2006, at 10:28 AM, McGrath wrote: > I'm curious Roweena, was the chicken certified organic, or just one > from the local supermarket/poultry farm?? > > If it's cert/organic, it may not pose as great a risk/threat.....? > > I hope Audrey is ok? Mum's ok too?! Not too disstressed? > > > > http://www.onegrp.com/?McGrath > > One Group (Organic & Natural Enterprise) The world's FIRST extensive > range of certified organic skin, body, hair, oral & health care > products - certified by Australian Certified Organic (ACO) and the > United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to the highest > international food standards ... > We offer an innovative product range of unrivalled purity and > effectiveness. >  Re: Re: E coli - Food Poisoning??? > HELP!!!!! >  > >  > >  >   hi sheri, debbie and anita, >  > >  >   so far so good... shes happy as anything! >  > >  >   if i was to see symptoms it would be tonight... ive just > given her >  >   transfer factor and probiotic. i will get the charcoal this > morning >  >   and give her one of those right away. i will keep you all > posted! >  > >  >   roweena x >  > >  >   On 20/01/2006, at 3:15 AM, Sheri Nakken wrote: >  > >  >   > At 12:09 PM 1/19/2006 -0000, you wrote: >  >   > >Hi Roweena >  >   > > >  >   > >I'm not really sure what the best thing to do is, I'll be >  > interested >  >   > >to hear Sheri's response too, however I believe you can > give >  >   > >charcoal (available in tablet form) and this will absorb > the >  > nasties >  >   > >from her gut, if you give it to her straight away maybe > the >  > bacteria >  >   > >will pass through her system without causing any/too much >  > harm. We >  >   > >went to Bali for a 10 day holiday when DD1 was not quite 2 > and >  > we >  >   > >gave her one of these tablets to chew each day - no > problem with >  >   > >stomach bugs for her at all. They are a bit gross to chew > up >  > but >  >   > >she was happy enough to do it, they make your stools black >  > though so >  >   > >don't be alarmed! >  >   > > >  >   > >HTH helps for the time being and I hope you get some other >  >   > >responses, bon courage!! Debbie >  >   > >  >   > Until there are symptoms, can't really use a homeopathic > remedy >  >   > And there may be NO symptoms. >  >   > Just because something is out doesn't mean that it will > cause >  > illness >  >   > Depends on susceptibility >  >   > We worry way too much about these things.............. >  >   > >  >   > But what Debbie suggests might be good - I haven't used it > but >  > have >  >   > heard >  >   > of some of you doing it. >  >   > >  >   > But she will probably be totally fine without anything >  >   > >  >   > Let me know if anything comes up as far as symptoms go. >  >   > Sheri >  >   > >  >   > >  >   > > >  >   > > >  >   > >> >  >   > >> hi sheri, >  >   > >> >  >   > >> just freaking out because i fed audrey (whos 2.5 years) > some >  > roast >  >   > >> chicken for lunch and dinner... two meals... my > husband >  > tells me >  >   > >it >  >   > >> was out on the kitchen bench overnight!!!!!! >  >   > >> >  >   > >> i just googled food storage etc and it says not to leave > out >  >   > >cooked >  >   > >> poultry for more than an hour... it says it can cause > kidney >  >   > >failure >  >   > >> in small children amongst many other terrible things! i > cant >  >   > >breathe >  >   > >> im so worried!!! >  >   > >> >  >   > >> she has no symptoms - apparently symptoms take 2 days to >  > surface >  >   > >(runny >  >   > >> stools, vomitting, extreme temps). i just want to be > prepared >  >   > >incase >  >   > >> because the chicken was out for 14 hours... i am really >  > freaking >  >   > >out! >  >   > >> >  >   > >> do you know anything about this sort of thing? is there >  > something >  >   > >i >  >   > >> can do to strengthen her tummy - a remedy i can give? > is >  > there >  >   > >> something i can get so im feeling ready? >  >   > >> >  >   > >> roweena x >  >   > >> >  >   > > >  >   > > >  >   > > >  >   > > >  >   > > >  >   > > >  >   > > >  >   > >
