Guest guest
This is an email to a friend that is having a hard time trying to decide whether or not to vaccinate. I have tried to help her a lot but her sister in law is an RN and is really pushing her to vaccinate. I was wondering what everyones arguements would be over this email. jen c hi, jaime! first of all, i believe what i do because of what i have read and seen, not just what I've been taught. my experiences in south America, seeing what happens to people who catch and have diseases that we rarely see over here, showed me what people can look like (if they survive) if they aren't immunized. they live w/the effects of the disease process for the rest of their life. and, believe it or not, i actually have already faced a lot of opposition because of my strong stand on vaccinations/immunizations. secondly, those critically ill children were from high SES levels---upper middle class at the least. the lowest SES folks don't seem to have problems w/getting their vaccinations---they can't afford the alternatives were they not to (private schools, private doctors, etc.). plus, i've seen immunized children suffer because of other kids who weren't immunized. i had a little baby who was exposed to whooping cough 2 wks prior to receiving her vaccination for it...because of this, the poor baby spent weeks in the ICU (literally FIGHTING for her life) and months in the hospital. were that other child immunized, they wouldn't have exposed the newborn to the illness. so immunizing is actually not just about personal preference, but the entire population at large.
