The reason I mentioned the Perioral dermatitis is b/c I had it once when I

was in college. I typically have a very good complexion and I rarely if ever

even wear make up....but I got this terrible rash/acne on my face (looked

like a BUNCH of tiny zits in big red dry rash), almost in a ring around my

mouth. I finally had to see a dermatologist b/c it was embarrassing and ugly

and

I couldn't figure out what it was. Turns out, all the things I tried to " fix

it " - face creams, washing, etc. were making it worse. He suggested only

using water or a mild cleanser if I had to like Cetaphil to wash my face- I

switched to a non flouride toothpaste- and I think I did take an antibiotic and

maybe had a cream to apply to it (It was years ago so I dont remember)...but

it cleared up right away and never returned. I remember them telling me they

only usually see it in women and children. I have no idea what caused mine-

there was no change in my routine or products I was using...it just came up

all of a sudden. Anyway, that was my experience.

Thanks so much. This looks like the closest thing so far, but it says it's rare

in children and the main causes are steriods, heavy face creams, and fluoridated

toothpaste. She has had none of these. It doesn't seem to bother her much so I

guess I'll just keep waiting it out.

Re: Re: OT: Impetigo/Rash on face

Sounds like Perioral dermatitis (see pics here : _Perioral Dermatitis_

(http://www.aocd.org/skin/dermatologic_diseases/perioral_dermatiti.html) ) ?

It

usually only effects women and children and is irritated by what people

typically do to try and clear it up-(various creams and washing).

Thanks Debbie. I didn't think it was impetigo either but my mom thought it was.

Does it itch? I thought that impetigo itches a lot. I have considered food

allergies too but I thought 4 years old would be pretty late to start developing

them.

Re: OT: Impetigo/Rash on face

Hi Jodi

This doesn't sound like impetigo to me, impetigo is usually little

sores which don't heal very well and start to spread - can you tell

I have first hand experience with that one ;) Although I could be

wrong and it may take other forms. It could be fungal and it could

also be an allergic reaction. I have seen a red, inflamed rash

appear around my daughters mouth after eating mangoes. I'm sure the

coconut oil will help but you may want to have a look at her diet

and try to eliminate certain foods and see if it disappears. Sorry

I can't be more helpful, I'm sure someone else will have some more

ideas/suggestions for you.

Good luck, Debbie

> Does anyone know if Impetigo itches or not? I have read that it

does and that it doesn't. My 4-year-old daughter has had this rash

on her face for about two months now. It started out on her chin and

it looked like it was chapped and now it spread to around her mouth

and it's more red and bumpy. It doesn't itch and it only bothers her

when it gets too dried out. So far I have only put coconut oil on

it, but I'm not sure if I should start doing anything else. I have

no clue what it could be. I thought it could be a food allergy, but

I thought that type of rash would itch. Any ideas?

You need to make sure that the last parenthesis is off the link and then it

should work. Try this:

This certainly could be what I'm battling right now but I sure as heck don't

want to take antibiotics for weeks on end! Hopefully my homeopath can tackle

this but I'm in bad shape right now.

Thanks,

Sheri B.

I hope I can get rid of it without an antibiotic. I so do NOT want to take

one!! But it's getting worse and rather embarrassing and here we are at the

holidays.
