Guest guest
I sure appreciate all the kind words and support. My little girl who is now 14 mos developed jaundice didn't know that was a possible side effect from vit K and didn't even know about that injection honestly. I have enough stress and am single and don't want to get into a big battle with hospital staff, drs' etc. My concern is if I don't have a physician for the baby couldn't this be construed as medical neglect? This FP MD said she would NOT not agree to the oral K although she is not the one who would do the injection or the oral drops anyway. She also said she had discussed this with the hospital chief of staff who happens to be a pediatrician and that he consulted with a neonatologist and that the oral K was just not standard of care. I looked into birthing centers yesterday and there aren't any in my area.(Jen, I am about 3 hrs from you south of Augusta). There was only one midwife listed in Augusta and she was affliated with a large hospital so I think I would get the same song and dance and it would be stressful to me having to change all plans this late in the game. As far as home birth, again there are just not the resources in my area for this to be an option. I will find another dr for the babies though as she was unwilling to even look at the folder of info I have re: vit K and basically treated my like I was simple minded and ignorant and really placing my children at risk by not vaccinating. I don't think I will be able to before the delivery of this baby though as my community is small. The baby's dr also said that the medical community in the area ALL felt the way she did which I thought was rather threatening and isolating too. I have a larger city about an hr away but I imagine it will take some time to find a doctor that will respect my decision. Any thoughts about how to go about finding one? I know many of you don't do the well baby checks but I don't want to take any chances of DFS saying I am medically neglecting my children, especially after the comments from the dr that she was " concerned " for the well being of my children. I do know there was a case in GA where a judge court ordered vaccinating a famliy's children but don't have details on the case. Guest guest
Hi Beth, If the Hospital Chief of staff needs to ask another doctor what their " Standard of Care " is, obviously he is not the most informed person on what hospital policy is there, and he is the Chief of Staff!!!. That is scary. Also, a neonatologist is a doctor for very sick babies. Why on earth would anything he says pertain to your healthy baby. Good 'ol hospital mentality: expect the worst...that's where the big money is. Drives me insane!!! The only way a doctor can report you as being negligent is if you include a doctor in your baby's care. I used to believe that it was possible to find a Ped that could look past the fact that I just don't do vaccines, but I quickly learned that is not usually an option. Buy your own baby scale and cloth tape measurer, and keep a monthly growth log if this makes you feel better. Since you don't vaccinate, this is all a Ped would be doing anyway, and by doing this you eliminate exposure to sick children in a doctor's office. Remember this: Doctors are for sick people. If you plan to breastfeed and eat a healthy diet, I really see no reason why your baby would need to see one. The average breastfed baby gains around 6 ounces/week, but you will know baby is gaining weight when the newborn clothes just don't fit anymore. What am I yapping about...you have been through this once already:) Also, find yourself a qualified Classical Homeopath from the files section, and find a Chiropractor who you like, and this really is all you need. During a hospital birth, a lot of times the baby endures some sort of birth truama (ie-OB pushing on your stomach, pulling on the baby during delivery, rough handling, etc) and things are pushed out of alignment. Seeing a Chiro is very beneficial for a newborn, and babies respond very well to adjustments. To me, building our immune systems is better than any Ped out there. BTW-Jaundice is very common in newborn babies. Exposure to direct or indirect sunlight 2-3 times per day for 5 minutes at a time can help the liver catch up with breaking down the bilirubin. Also, if you have the " old-style " plain windows in your house (not double paned, or coated), placing baby in front of a window in just a diaper can help as well. Making sure baby is eating LOTS helps with the breakdown as well, since bili is excreted in urine and stools. That stupid light babies are put under is supposed to simulate sunlight. Basically, what they are doing is charging you for something you could otherwise be doing yourself at home for free. It is your right to refuse refuse refuse, but they can by law deny you care over this for being " risky " . What your doctor says is not written in stone, nor is it the law. Have the hospital birth if you don't feel like changing around at the last minute, but you will have to have some sort of Ped in the hospital, and it sounds like they are not going to let you make any decisions in regards to your baby's health. Personally, I really would reconsider going somewhere else to birth, or staying home. Please feel free to email privately if you need any references or additional info, or just plaind old want to talk. HTH, and I will keep you in my prayers. Guest guest
Beth, believe me you might not (midwife giving you the same song and dance with being in a hospital). My midwife is affiliated with a hospital and she is VERY pro natural practices. I know there are a few out there but you never know till you research. I suggest going to do a interview. WHAT is a few minutes out of you day????? DO IT!!! I promise the stress only will get worse if you don't find someone you are comfortable with jen -- Re: Re: vit K update I sure appreciate all the kind words and support. I suggest looking on line for Bradley classes (natural birthing) and calling an instructor. She would definitely have some names for you in your area!!! If you want, tell me exactly where you live and i can do the research for you. jen c -- Re: Re: vit K update I sure appreciate all the kind words and support.
