Guest guest
Gail, I've been using my light box for the last 2 weeks, from 1/2 hour to 1 1/2 hours each day. How long does it take to start to feel some results from using one? Thank you for your help! Sue B. > > Thanks for this post. Guest guest
In 1990 I participated in phtotherapy research at Mich State U. We sat within 3 feet of the light box daily between 6 and 8 am. Very effective. My late husband made a light box for me. It is on now. mjh " The Basil Book " _http://foxhillfarm.us/FireBasil/_ (http://foxhillfarm.us/FireBasil/) Posted by: " Gail Ilse-Mayberry " _gmilsem@... _ (mailto:gmilsem@...?Subject= Re:%20Melatonin--Gail) _msmabrry _ (msmabrry) Mon Dec 4, 2006 1:35 am (PST) I think 1/2 hour should be sufficient. Be sure to sit directly in front of it so the light gets into your eyes. I sit in front of it and do paper work or put on my make up. Be sure to do it first thing in the morning or it can disturb your sleep. Good luck. Wish me luck too . I sure want to crawl out of this funk I am in. Guest guest
Just realized I didn't answer your question. You should be feeling results very soon if not today. For me my energy goes up and I can sustain it longer in the day. Gail sb2boys wrote: > > Gail, > I've been using my light box for the last 2 weeks, from 1/2 hour to 1 > 1/2 hours each day. Guest guest
I didn't make mine. I ordered it ready made. My box is 12-15 years old and still works great. You could make one but I think the price has come down considerably since I bought mine. The lights are full spectrum lights and if I remember right, there needs to be at least 10,000 lumens of bright light. As I say it has been a long time since I researched this. You could try a web search for therapeutic lights for seasonal affective disorder. Guest guest
How do you make a light box? Lee Lee, It's virtually impossible to make a light box. Many people slap something together, but it's either a fire hazard or doesn't put out enough of the right kind of light. When I was looking at light boxes, they went for $400. If they work, it's worth the money. I borrowed a friend's. It didn't do me any good.
Guest guest
I did a search today and there are quite a few places to buy them ready made on the web. My understanding is that they must be full spectrum and provide 10,000 lux. I said lumen before. This is supposed to be the same as exposure on a bright spring day. You can buy them with an alarm clock and they turn on in the morning so you can wake with the light. Supposed to reset your circadian rhythm. I sure could use that. I have messed up my sleep wake cycle since I don't work because I tend to revert back to being a night owl. Guest guest
Thanks. I would just like to know if it would help before I shell out money on the Internet. If it helps with my sleep, it's worth it! Lee
Guest guest
Where do you get the lights--Home Depot? DH can build that in minutes and we have everything except the lights. :-) Lee Re: Melatonin--Gail You go to the hardware/building supply store and buy 3 or 4 shoplights 1/2 sheet plywood some screws a multiple plug adapter Screw the shoplights on the plywood Lean it up against the wall Install the lights (in research coolwhite cheap ones were use, I now use full spectrum) Plug it in Put a comfy spot to sit or lie within three feet mjh " The Basil Book " _http://foxhillfarm.us/FireBasil/_ (http://foxhillfarm.us/FireBasil/) Posted by: " Leona " _tlukasiewicz@... _ (mailto:tlukasiewicz@...?Subject= Re:%20Melatonin--Gail) _leonagibson2000 _ (leonagibson2000) Mon Dec 4, 2006 1:42 pm (PST) How do you make a light box? Guest guest
This was fifteen years ago and we duplicated the light setup used for the research. The shoplights came from KMart and included bulbs. Cool whites were used for the research. There are several brands of shoplights. Look for those with the power cord at the end of the unit rather than in the middle. Place them so the cords are at the bottom. They cost about $11.00 I got a couple recently for my bay window from Lowe's. I do not think KMart carries them any more. mjh " The Basil Book " _http://foxhillfarm.us/FireBasil/_ (http://foxhillfarm.us/FireBasil/) Posted by: " Leona " _tlukasiewicz@... _ (mailto:tlukasiewicz@...?Subject= Re:%20Melatonin--Gail) _leonagibson2000 _ (leonagibson2000) Tue Dec 5, 2006 2:58 pm (PST) Where do you get the lights--Home Depot? Guest guest
Yes, I think you can get the bulbs. cent tubes. Just be sure they are full spectrum. My box has three tubes about 24inches long each. It puts out 10,000 lux. I imagine if you don't get the exact right amount of light it would still be beneficial. Going outside is good to on sunny days but it still might have to be augmented with artificial light. Gail Leona wrote: > > Where do you get the lights--Home Depot?
