Guest guest
HIya Blake Very comprehensive article on sleep, an issue of great interest to me. A couple of things: Phil Bate's subliminal (neuroliminal) CDs now have different names and website. I've participated in testing all of the various subliminals he's developed, the newest's goal is to increase blood flow, ala HEG. _http://www.drbate.com/_ (http://www.drbate.com/) SAM-e was key to significantly improving the quality of my sleep. Needs to be taken early in the day on an empty stomach. I do not see it mentioned on your site. I find the the liquid form of Magnesium is more effective than caps or tabs. I react poorly to some of the chelates you mention, especially asporotate. My body needs a lot of supplemental Magnesium. One or two drops of essential oil of Lavendar on my pillow really helps me. I see you suggest NO essential oils and group these natural plant distillates with chemical polluters. You might want to include something on waking consistently at a certain time like 2:30 am..... TCM suggests that there is a liver issue at this time. Be amused by this remedy which works remarkably well when I awaken after only 1.5 hours of sleep. I make and eat a hot fudge sundae on French vanilla ice cream. Ice cream needs to contain a minimal number of ingredients and few artifical ones. Same for the hot fudge sauce. I fall back asleep and sleep deeply within twenty minutes of eating this. Otherwise, I stay awake for a minim of three hours. I participated in phototherapy research at Michigan State University in 1990 and have used a homemade light box, less elegant and less expensive than those on your site. My husband fixed 3 - two bulb shop lights (4' long) onto a piece of plywood and substituted some full spectrum light bulbs. It leans against the wall and I position myself and this computer about three feet from it. It is used primarily from October to March in the early morning. mjh " The Basil Book " _http://foxhillfarm.us/FireBasil/_ (http://foxhillfarm.us/FireBasil/) Posted by: " Blake Graham " _blanket@... _ (mailto:blanket@...?Subject= Re:Options%20for%20insomnia.) _galapagust _ (galapagust) Sat Nov 11, 2006 8:36 pm (PST) Dear list, I have recently put together an article discussing non-prescription options for treating insomnia and improving sleep quality for CFS patients. Guest guest
SAM-e also helped me, but it ended up giving me headaches so I discontinued it after a couple weeks. The one thing that has really helped is undenatured whey protein. Some people appearantly can take it every day, some notice a decrease in effectiveness over time. I had to lower my dosage and start alternating days with it. It is really helping me sleep well for the first time in years. > > Dear list, > > I have recently put together an article discussing non- prescription options for treating insomnia and improving sleep quality for CFS patients. Guest guest
What dose of SAM-e were you taking at what time of day? Were you taking it on an empty stomach? Were you also taking adequate B6, folic acid and B12? mjh " The Basil Book " _http://foxhillfarm.us/FireBasil/_ (http://foxhillfarm.us/FireBasil/) Posted by: " j mascis " _mascis_j@... _ (mailto:mascis_j@...?Subject= Re:%20Options%20for%20insomnia.) _mascis_j _ (mascis_j) Sun Nov 12, 2006 6:12 pm (PST) SAM-e also helped me, but it ended up giving me headaches so I discontinued it after a couple weeks. Guest guest
SAMe was a godsend for me, and I have never. ever gotten a headache from it. In fact, it has a calming effect. Cholestyramine has often helped me sleep too, as when I get mold exposure, not only do i get fatigue that rest doesn't cure, (it has nothing at all to do with sleep except that when i get it I can't sleep until it goes away) When I get hit by mold, I get inflammation in my body that I can feel and often, a anxiety goes along with it. The cholestyramine literally sucks those toxins out of me and in around an hour, I start feeling the relief.. I don't know why, but its calming.. It helps with the fatigue too.. a lot.. But I went through a lot of mold exposure and now my body goes into a very strong 'fight back or die' mode when I get exposed to it.. very quickly.. and so I need the cholestyramine, I'd be much worse without it.. (rininging ears, headaches, feverishness, smell sensitivity) when I was exposed.. So, when I feel my ears getting hot or my joints beginning to ache.. I reach for the cholestyramine.. (and SAMe, and NAC, and alpha-lipoic acid, fish oil, whey protein, Vitamins C+ E, zinc, ALC, milk thistle, etc)
