Guest guest
Isn't that something a doc could handle? Adrienne Diabetes Insipidis and CFS... I'm starting to wonder if I have diabetes insipidis. Not much info on the web except that it may be related to pituitary and/or hypothalmus issues -- but no specifics for treatment. I've been plagued with CFS and anxiety for years -- anxiety first, then CFIDS for the last 8 years or so -- and all the while having a hard time gaining weight or holding on to it. And recently have had muscle wasting and frozen shoulder problems. Shoulder is still bad, but not too much worse, but have definitely lost muscle. And for about 20 years I've haven't been able to hold my water very well. Not URGENT urination, but certainly frequent -- probably six-seven-eight times a day. Also dry mouth, gum and teeth issues -- the only symptom I don't really have is excessive thirst. HELP, ADVICE??? thanks, Dan I've tried the EMF protection hat (which helped Kurt gain muscle mass), but not worn it as long as I should during the day, and even skipped days. This list is intended for patients to share personal experiences with each other, not to give medical advice. If you are interested in any treatment discussed here, please consult your doctor. Guest guest
> Isn't that something a doc could handle? > Adrienne Hi Adrienne, One would think so but you know how that goes. Seems like we have to educate our doctors on everything, esp if it's connected to CFS. I was just putting it out there to see if others have experienced DI and to hear how they treated it? A conventional doctor (especially a Medicaid doctor) would maybe do a glucose tolerance test then prescribe some drug to suppress the symptoms temporarily, rather than use natural methods to treat the cause...and resolve the issue. d. > Diabetes Insipidis and CFS... > > > I'm starting to wonder if I have diabetes insipidis. Guest guest
Hi, Dan. Diabetes Insipidus(DI) is common in PWCs, given the effect oxidative injury has in reducing output of the key hormone for water retention in the body. Doing a 24 hr urine collection test and/or a arginine-vasopressin hormone(AVH) blood test can help rule this in or out (low glutathione test results also of course are an indirect indication that DI may be an issue as well as low blood volume as can be tested through nuclear tracer testing that also measures your RBC mass). Results that are above normal for the amount of urine collected from you in a day or results that are too low for the AVH help verify DI. Likely that your anxiety(and whatever has produced this) has included stress and higher adrenalization, thus lowering glutathione levels or metabolism and lead to the oxidative suppression of your hypothalamus, which produces this hormone. Sometimes cancer radiation therapy to the brain has DI as a side effect. Have your doc send you to a specialist if none of the above seems to fit, but it does sound like DI to me. Fortunately, I was able to get rid of this problem and hypothyroidism for my case of ME/CFS by repleting glutathione which took many several months. Guest guest
Here is a link for managing one form of DI naturally; low sodium, low protein, drink lots of water. Do you really think you have it? I pee very frequently too-sometimes. It is an on and off symptom. Guest guest
I'm not sure if I do, as I've had the frequent urination thing for probably 25 years, but CFS for about 8-9 years. I had a glucose tolerance test about 14 years ago that came back within the normal range. Also, I had a hair analysis done about 4 years ago which showed very low sodium, and high potassium, so I think I need more sodium -- not sure. I'll check out your link though, and also 's info. Thanks Adrienne, d. > > Here is a link for managing one form of DI naturally; low sodium, low protein, drink lots of water. > Do you really think you have it? > I pee very frequently too-sometimes. Guest guest
Hi, Adrienne. Your presence or absence of diabetes insipidus may be an ongoing indicator of your glutathione status. When the glutathione level is low, the DI will be worse, if my hypothesis is correct. The reason is that arginine vasopressin, the hypothalamus/pituitary hormone that counters DI, is a secretory protein that has cysteine residues. As such, its synthesis depends on having enough glutathione in the neurons in the hypothalamus where it it made to keep the sulfur in the cysteine residues in their sulfhydryl form until the appropriate stage in the synthesis of the protein. If glutathione is too low in these cells, they will not be able to turn out enough arginine vasopressin (antidiuretic hormone), and then I think you will pee more. Guest guest
Aha! Fluctuations in GSH? Does that mean I haven't reached an absolute bottom? And what does that say about the validity of the RBC glut test I took? If it is low, I know something. If it is high, (haven't seen the results yet), I maybe know a little? And what would I know if I retest after supplementation. Seems like trial and error and how do I feel is as good a guide as testing, some of the time at least! I must try to track the intermittent peeing and see when I feel better. Actually, I am pretty sure I am feeling better when I have less water on board.. Face, hands, ankles puffier when it slows down. Maybe it is not DI, maybe fluctuations in my heart. Thanks for the info.
