Guest guest
Root canals use gutta percha, but they put heavy metals in it so it is opaque on xrays. About 15% of people are supposedly sensitive to gutta percha, myself being one. It makes me very sick. The heavy metal included is usually bismuth, sometimes mercury. Some gutta percha cones are stored in a formaldehyde dusting and others are not. Endocal is the 'holistic' root canal filler but 50% of the time it fails. > > Hello > > I have had a white filling in one of my teeth for about 7 years. Guest guest
My understanding is that one of the big problems with root canals is that you have a dead tooth there, and the body knows it, it annoys the immune system. Also the material used creates a lot of places for bacteria to thrive, so you basically get a chronic infection state going as far as your body is concerned, too much for people with CFIDS to deal with. Anyone ever tells me to get a root canal, I will tell them to pull the tooth. also Helen > > Hello > > I have had a white filling in one of my teeth for about 7 years. Guest guest
Hi, Helen. " Helen " <h.maybanks@...> wrote: > > Hello > > I have had a white filling in one of my teeth for about 7 years. ***Smart move, so long as " white filling " doesn't mean white gold or porcelin with mercury mixed in these. Make sure to ask for all the specific ingredients that go into any type of filling, not just the name they are called implying purity. When the dentist put it in she said that it was very deep, so if it didn't > work she would have to do a root canal. Fortunately she did it fine, > and it has been no bother over the past 7 years. > > Last night it fell out, so I am going to have to make an appt with the > dentist. I remember, > from being on various ME/CFS pages that people have talked about the > dangers of root canals. What are they? ***Infection can be a risk, particularly if it is not a well done root canal. Vaporizing mercury residue in the space thus exposing it to you for greater toxic absorbtion can also be a problem, if indeed mercury has been part of any of the fillings that have filled this one tooth. I would obviously only use white fillings, and not mercury amalgums, but are there any addition problems? ***Infection is what to look out for and healing time to any injured tissue in the process will likely take longer given you have ME/CFS. Be patient with this. And if so, what can I do about this? ***Ask questions, be very clear about what the new filling is made of OR simply have the tooth removed to avoid deep infection. You can later have a replacement titanium anchored tooth implant put in which seems to be very safe though again, be patient with healing if you go this route. ***
Guest guest
Hello Helen, As I understand it root canals are not the greatest and frowned upon by many, but if you do decide to do one I've mentioned this a few times, you might want to get a Clifford test done to use only substances your body will not react to. Unfortunetly there's no guarentee that it might not sometime later along the way, but the test is fairly inexpensive and probably worth it for any other fillings you might have done as well. You can google Jess Clifford's lab in Boulder CO. and call them for info. Edy Helen <h.maybanks@...> wrote: Hello I have had a white filling in one of my teeth for about 7 years. Last night it fell out, so I am going to have to make an appt with the dentist. I fear that they may not be able to replace just the filling, because of the depth, but may have to do a root canal. I remember, from being on various ME/CFS pages that people have talked about the dangers of root canals. What are they? I would obviously only use white fillings, and not mercury amalgums, but are there any addition problems? And if so, what can I do about this? Guest guest
My endodontist in San Diego uses less toxic materials than others. I am very chemical sensitive but didnt have a problem with it at all. He used Endocal and it worked fine. Thats all he uses - I cant imagine theres a 50% failure rate (???) --- " Adrienne G. Guest guest
Pulling a tooth can be incredibly traumatic too. And I don't mean psychologically traumatic, I mean physically. I had a tooth pulled out because I didn't want a root canal + crown and was very, very sick for weeks afterwards. Bacteria spilling out from the site of removal and then risk of infection in jaw where tooth used to be. I have decided to try getting a root canal + crown on this broken molar this time. Off to the endodontist tomorrow. I am already on abx, will add some more tomorrow before the procedure. Wish me luck! Guest guest
Yes, there is a 50% failure rate. It doesn't seal the canals well. It can take a few years to fail. > > > > > > Hello > > > > > > I have had a white filling in one of my teeth > > for about 7 years. At first it was met with disbelief, as root canals had not been known to fail so often. Then it was attributed to a society wide generalized lowering of health due to sedentary/dietary habits, drug and alcohol abuse, individual factors and just plain " flukes " . And now it has moved into a realm where the probability of failure is just seen as " That's the way it is. You take the risk, but if the tooth fails, it's not the dentists fault if the procedure was performed properly " . In any case, the reasons for the increase in endodontic failures goes un-researched. Guest guest
Hi Thanks for all the info everyone. I am only 28 and it is a molar. It seems a bit early to lose a tooth there. I am not sensitive to chemicals, I know that some people will say that I am and I am just not aware of it, and that is fine, but I don't feel bad when I am exposed to chemicals. I have never had mercury filling, so there will be no danger when it is removed. I agree with the thing about the trauma of losing a tooth. It is a big tooth to have pulled. Argh! It is so hard to know what to do. Am off to dentists tomorrow, so will presumably find out. I am just hoping they can patch it up with a filling. Such a pain. Thanks everyone Helen
