Guest guest
On my organic acid profile my kynurenic acid was 4.91, the reference range is 0 to 2.0, so it is high. Have been taking 1000 to 1500 mgs of tryptophan at night to sleep, does seem to help some. Having bad problems with depression, so must not be making much serotonin. Anyone can tell me more about this situation? thanks, Helen > >
Guest guest
Well, Helen, I don't know about the biochem, but I sure know about depression! Major, major symptom for me, if untreated. If you resond to the trypto at night, maybe St 's wort will work for you, too. I used, for close to 2 decades , to use d,l-phenylalanine and it worked, but very crudely, with side effects. I am finally off it, thanks to a complex of stuff from neuroscience inc. called Excitacor. It includes tyrosine. In the afternoons, if I am drooping, I also have a cup of green tea. I find that a large dose of anyof these things creates side effects, but using multiple treatments does not. Adrienne Re: Amy Yasko - MTHFR and CBS deplete B12 ? Rich, anyone? Guest guest
Adrienne: Thanks. You posted recently that your neurotransmitter precursors were low, as mine are, that leads to depression. I am taking small to moderate amounts of several things for depression, SAMe, tryptophan, TMG, tryosine, D form of phenylanine, inositol, Chinese herbs with St. s Wort, Neurontin, and running an Alpha Stim on my ear lobes. Guest guest
Good Lord! I wasn't able to take both the DLPA and SAMe at the same time. Felt just like prozac. Which was nightmarish even at miniscule doses. I understand the St. J's wort also boosts serotinin. Adrienne ----- Original Message ----- From: helen9jora Adrienne: Thanks. Guest guest
Yeah, Prozac really sucks. The D form of phenanyline is not excitatory, I didn't dare touch the DLPA. Only take the revvers first thing in the morning. Guest guest
Helen, I am experiencing rather rapid weight gain since I quit the DLPA. I can feel my appetite has grown. This is most distressing, since I am quite obese. Do you happen to know whether the D form is the one that suppresses appetite? I hate to go back on it. I can't just take the revvers in the morning; need some boost after lunch, too. DLPA was the first supplement I ever took. I considered, because of the circumstances, that I was divinely guided to it. What does the D form do for you-for depression only? Guest guest
Do you have the genetic bypass book ? If so, it discusses high kynurenic acid in the microbes section. If not, you could search for it on autismanswer.com. As jill1313 said, it can be caused by chronic infection. Dr. Amy discusses it wrt chronic strep infection and says that strep is one of the causative factors of autism. Re: Amy Yasko - MTHFR and CBS deplete B12 ? Rich, anyone? Guest guest
Adrienne: I read about DPA in the Mood Cure book by Ross. There is a website with some information where you can also order it at moodcure.com. Not sure if it does anything on appetite but it's good for pain and depression. You wanna lose some weight, go on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. I've lost 20 lbs in a few months, after going on it gradually, no exercise, back to my usual extremely scrawny self. Had gained that twenty pounds munching nervously during the end of my long klonopin withdrawal two years ago. Many people report having more energy on this diet, and it should help my depression and leaky gut as well. I read about it first in the Autism book by Pangborn and Baker that Rich recommends, then got Breaking the Vicious Cycle by Elaine Gottschall and Gut and Psychology Syndrome by Natasha -McBride. There is also information at pecanbread.com.
