Sixteen of the 25 patients had single virus EBV infection and benefitted, but the remaining 9 - clinically similar - CFS patients with had EBV-HCMV co-infection and did not benefit. It is therefore concluded that valacyclovir (valtrex) in the laboratory is effective versus Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), but it is not effective (active) versus cytomegalovirus (HCMV). Therefore, the results strengthen the need for subset classification and appropriate subset-directed antiviral treatment for CFS illness. " I think the dosage for the Valtrex was something like 1 g 3x/day, but I can't be sure. My Reply: This makes sense to me. I was diagnosed with EBV and Herpes Simplex, Six and Parvo, but not cytomegalo. I took 1 gm three times a day of Valtrex and it took about six months for everything to really click (Dr. Dantini protocol). I rarely have sore throat and swollen glands much anymore, but if I do, I take Valtrex for 2-3 days (usually just two grams instead of three) and I get a boost to my immune system. in La Selva Beach CA
Guest guest
Hey there , I was tested for viruses in 11/05. HHV6(RT-PCR) - Negative EBV - Negative CMV IGG was high, but IGM was very low I'm not sure how accurate the tests are, but I know that for years prior to my CFS onset I had a chronic sore throat and headache, which sort of indicates chronic viral infection of some kind, but based solely on the blood tests I'm not sure if anti-viral therapy would be right for me.
